Default Y&R Actors Returning As "Spirits"

While I love seeing old characters who were killed off on the show come back, just to see them again, I wonder what the limit should be for re-visiting, or if there should even be one.
After like the first couple times, it just seems a bit much, and it starts to lean toward ridiculousness when you have "dead" characters always coming back.

I haven't been keeping up on Y&R as much as I used to so I don't know how many times "dead" characters have made re-appearances, but it seemed like Cassie and John Abbott were always turning up for one reason or another when I used to watch more regularly.
And even though I am sporadic in my viewing lately, I think it was just a month or so ago I happened to tune in and John was back talking to Jack again.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love the character of John Abbott - I wish they never would have killed him off - but sometimes I feel like it diminishes their death somehow to always be showing up.

One of the reasons I was thinking about this again, was the realization that, sadly, we won't be seeing Catherine Chancellor making an appearance as a "spirit" any time soon.

Does anyone else have any other thoughts on characters returning in spirit form?

Cassie is Sharon's imagination as she is mentally ill.

John Abbott is Jack's conscience. Unlike Sharon, Jack knows that John is not real.

Cassie and John Abbott are not coming back as "spirits" like you say. Cassie is a hallucination for a mentally ill woman who goes off her meds. And John Abbott is Jack's conscience. Jack is fully aware.

I haven't watched the show in forever as it has become pretty much unwatchable to me. I did, however, enjoy when the spirits of Cassie and John would make appearances to characters when I did watch. It is sad that we won't see Catherine's spirit return, but I hope the show will use past clips to keep her in the forefront and not to be forgotten.

Whatever you want to call them, the characters are always coming back, in some way, shape or form.

They made a huge mistake in killing off John Abbott, so I enjoy Jerry Douglas still being on the show, even if that is how it has to be done.

Prior to Sharon's mental illness this year, it had been quite a while since Cassie was last seen. I think she came back in September of this year.

While the show is nowhere what it used to be, it is far from unwatchable. The show did take a big hit with the unfortunate loss of Jeanne Cooper, and with Michelle Stafford leaving the show, but there are still plenty of great things about it.

Anytime Jess Walton is featured, it is a great episode for me. I hope Jill stays active on the show. I am also hopeful that Eileen Davidson will make a full-time return.

Yes, I loved the mostly friendly competitiveness between Jabot and Newman Enterprises under John and Victor. You could see they had real respect for each other. Those two were the "big guns" of the show. John's "death" definitely left a void.
But I like the way you are looking at it. I just kind of wish John/Jerry could have more of a role in the show than Jack's "conscience".

I agree. It is still one of, if not the, best soaps out there.

Yes, I always hate it when the show loses its tried and true actors, and am glad to see them return. Especially if it is for the long term.
