Default The Christmas Spirit

The last couple of months have been going pretty good for me and I'm happy to see the holiday season here. However, I've been having trouble getting into the holiday spirit. Its just doesn't seem like Christmas to me. Is anyone else having this problem?

Oh No

Not really...

But this year was such a drag to me. This is my first time out by myself without a roomate, my pastor resigned after 20+ years because of a scandal, and someone at our church shot herself two months ago.

I didn't even have the Summer Spirit with me this year, I cared less if I went anywhere or not...2013 was just unlucky for some reason!

And that's my bounty of a rabbit! (That came from a Bugs Bunny Cartoon called "Rebel Rabbit").

I think that a lot of the problem is that the older we get the less exciting Christmas or anything else that we loved as children becomes. Which is a shame. I still love all holidays and I hope that doesn't change. I strongly suggest that you should attend a Christmas service at the church of your choice. Singing those old hymns and carols and hearing the Christmas scripture being read really gets me in the spirit . For myself, nothing tops that! Merry Christmas!

SECONDED!

I live for the Holidays. Sometimes It's spent with relatives who came from all over the place to spend the time together, other times it's been just me and the neighbors. I take full advantage of the festivities, attending Parades, Concerts, and other festivities that take place. On Christmas Eve I'll attend as many Services as I can, you can learn a lot about how others observe Christmas.

Well, I do attend church but still can't get into the holiday spirit. However, I still have a few weeks to go.

I still love Christmas but it's not quite the same. People pass on, relatives move away. My mom lives with me so it's just the two of us. We try to get on Skype to see people but that rarely happens.

Well, I've been listening to lots of Christmas music and watching holiday specials on Hulu and YouTube, so that has helped get me into the spirit of the season...

Once my family was gone, Christmas stopped being fun for me. Nobody loved it like I did. I would start buying gifts in August. I'd send out about 75 Christmas cards and decorate like crazy. I still decorate like I always did, but my heart's not really into it, though I can say it's getting better every year.

If you still have your immediate family to celebrate Christmas with, you're truly blessed. Nothing's the same after they're gone. I'm just really going through the motions.

I can't imagine the heartache is causes each year for those whose family aren't still alive. My brother's struggle with cancer has my family worried. It's hard not knowing how many holidays that he may or may not still have.

I listen to Christmas music and I have put some decorations up, but I still need to decorate my tree.

I hope that your brother recovers so that he will be able to spend many more holidays with you.

No Christmas spirit, The only spirits I get are the kind Scrooge had, always wanting me to follow them to the cemetery. I never look forward to this time of year.

The only Christmas Spirit I know of is The Holy Spirit who enabled the virgin Mary to give birth to Jesus Christ- the Savior of the world!
Sure- feelings come and go, but I trust in the faithfulness of Christ and His salvation. And thus, I celebrate Christmas and Easter all year long because I celebrate Jesus all year long.
I do hope everyone can get into the swing of things at Christmas though. Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year too! And as Tiny Tim observed, "God bless us- everyone!"

That's the way it is with me. Christmas has never been the same after my Mom died. It was her Holiday. Her birthday is just a week before Christmas which makes it worse. It's sad because Christmas was a magical Holiday when I was a kid. Really the only thing I look forward to is the food.
