ABC Keeps "Peanuts" Specials through 2020
ABC Keeps "Peanuts" Specials through 2020
by Lynette Rice Dec 6, 2013 The Peanuts gang will stay on ABC for many more years. The net just inked an extension with Peanuts Worldwide LLC and Lee Mendelson Film Productions to keep the Emmy-winning specials like A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas through 2020. The specials were created by Charles M. Schulz and produced and animated by Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez. They began airing on ABC in 2001. A Charlie Brown Christmas, which first aired on TV in 1965, will celebrate its 50th anniversary in the coming year. Mendelson and Melendez’s association with Schulz harkens back to 1965 with A Charlie Brown Christmas. The three men continued their long-term association until Schulz’s death, working together on 50 Peanuts network specials and four feature films. The network specials won five Emmys, two Peabodys and 18 other Emmy nominations. http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/12/06/ab...-through-2020/ |

This is great news, but I noticed "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" isn't listed. Hope this was part of the deal.

I'm glad that they found a new home. CBS was their old one and I wished they had stayed on that one.

I used to have "Happy New Year" on VHS but obviously I can't play it anymore and I had a hard time trying to find it by itself on DVD. So tonight I'm having a Peanuts marathon (since this is my first NYE since my husband passed away in January) and I found the NYE show on On Demand. It was sponsored by ABC and had the commercials in it but those didn't bother me. I was glad to finally see it again after so long!

Not The Great Pumpkin? I would add that and Charlie Brown's All Stars, You're in Love Charlie Brown, and features A Boy Named Charlie Brown and Snoopy Come Home if I were them.

Is the Peanuts/ABC lease up? If so...where will they play the Peanuts Specials? The CW or will they return to CBS?
I'd also like to see the Garfield Specials be revived on either CBS or The CW since both have stake on Viacom and Garfield is part of CBS/Viacom. |
