Does anybody have this? Not the 2000's UK or US show, but the 1995 US show that starred Valerie Harper, Debra Jo Rupp and Dakin Matthews. It lasted like 6 episodes. I'm guessing the reason it didn't last was because it had Dakin Matthews as a regular. Great actor, but if he's on your show, it's going to be short-lived (Drexell's Class, Soul Man, Jeff Foxworthy show, etc.) He was basically the Patrick Warbuton of his time, except with talent.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!!! Are you knocking Patrick Warburton? Because he has loads of talent, and has had some real success in television. And he's one of the few cool republicans.

Not a fan of his dry acting or most republican politicians, but this isn't the place to talk about that. Shows always seem to get cancelled when he's added to the cast (Newsradio, Less than Perfect, etc). His own show the Tick also didn't last long.

Rules of Engagement went for 7 seasons. He was on Less Than Perfect for the majority of its run. The Tick was ahead of its time. He can also carry a movie, Rock Slyde was hilarious.

Jump the Shark used to have a whole category devoted to him, before the horrid TvGuide bought the site and gutted it.

That was before Rules of Engagement finished its run. (7 seasons, 100 episodes, syndication deal and all). He also had a prominent recurring role on Seinfeld, which ended on its own terms.
Also, I did some further research. There were a number of reasons The Tick was cancelled, none of which had to do with the cast or quality. It was owned by Sony and Fox would not have made money in syndication (like they would with The Bernie Mac Show). Also, the budget was very high, with the costumes and all. Also, "not a fan of his dry acting"? It's called deadpan! There is a reason he is one of, if not the, most sought after voice actors around. I'm going to let this go, but the guy is good. |
