With all the books about The Andy Griffith Show it's surprising that no one wrote a book about Gomer Pyle USMC, since it appeals to the same fans and is a good show on its own. The show is worthy of a book. Frank Sutton died early,
but the other people were around for a long time to be interviewed about the show. Now, most of them are gone too and their stories about the show won't ever be told either. |

Well, At least Jim Nabors and Ronnie Schell (Duke) have some commentary on the Season 1 DVD set, which I'm currently watching.

Ronnie Schell remembers a lot and would be a great source for a book.
Barbara Stuart talked about the show a little in a book. The only other comments I've seen were a few by Frank Sutton for TV Guide or newspaper articles. Too bad it's such slim pickings. Elizabeth MacRae probably has good stories of the last couple years. I wish the DVDs had continued using commentaries beyond that first season. Ronnie Schell also did a couple radio interviews for Stu's Show, that are available, where I'll guess he talks about the show quite a bit. |
