Default How many GI fans actually knew this?

I didn't know until Surviving Gilligans Island that the SS. Minnow was named after a man. Like Dawn said, most people thought it was named after that little fish.

He had no faith in television.
Thought is was a waste of time.

Correct but I was too lazy to look it up although I should've remembered it.

I read recently that Newton is still alive. When I read that quote years ago, I always thought the man was 60 something. One day in the paper read his name and said he still alive. Wow.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Wayne Newton?

So if Newton Minnow is age 88, when he said that "tv is a wasteland", he was only in his 30's. Reading that quote decades ago, I figured it was a man in his 60's who was fed up with the current entertainment at that time. Things you learn !!!
