Default I finally got the joke about the "Doris Day Show" reference lol

In the episode when Archie asked Louise Jefferson how she liked the JULIA show just because she was black and then she asked him how he liked the Doris Day show just because he was white lol Both Julia and Doris Day show had a lot of common which made the joke funny

1. both started in 1968
2. both actresses were attractive
3. both actresses played the role of a widow mother

I remember back in 1990 or 91 CBS reran 4 episodes of it on Sunday nights in Oct. for the shows 2oth anniversary and also to give a new Norman Lear sitcom a "boost" (they had AITF at 8 and the new show-it was called SUNDAY DINNER-at 8:30) they showed that episode & I had to explain that reference to my sister.

(and in case you're wondering, SUNDAY DINNER bombed in the ratings)

why was CBS airing a AITF episode in 1991? Unless you mean that episode was part of a flashback during a anniversary show

I still can't see CBS airing a 20 year old show but I guess I would have to see for myself lol

yea, I remember at the time I was thinking it was a little strange.

But I remember way back in the summer of 1977, they reran a few episodes of THE JACK BENNY SHOW in honor of his birthday or something.

Well, they did do it. I remember seeing it a couple of times. It was an attempt to draw in viewers for "Sunday Dinner" which I did see. Also keep in mind they did air the 1956 I Love Lucy X-Mas episode in 1989 and 1990 (which I did tape in 1990) in color. CBS will be airing it again in a few weeks.

In regards to Archie and Louise exchange, I'm surprised you didn't pick up on that earlier. When I saw the episode in the early 2001 again after discovering Julia, I immediately got it. A black female entertain and a white female entertainer. LOL.

Archie: So, how did you like The Julia Show last night?
Lousie: Fine! How did you like Doris Day?

I knew that Doris Day was a white show but I just didn't know the shows had so much in common lol I just thought Louise was throwing out any white show to make the point that Archie watched it just because he was white lol

That is exactly was Louise was doing. I think you did bring up some good points behind the exchange though.

I think Louise mentioned it because both shows were similar but one was just white and the other was black

Or maybe the researching side of me is just saying that

She was giving a counter point of sarcasm to Archie's comment as though all Blacks watched Julia at the time.

But it is so common. Seven years back, some idiot I picked up in my taxi asked me questions like:

"So, you like watching "A different world"?
"You like 227?"
"Are you an actor?"

All three of these questions do hold my interest but I also like Roseanne, Grace Under Fire and massage therapy and local social politics.

How ignorant he was.
