Default Anyone Else Thinks That It's Too Close to "The End" to have children?

It seems to me that I made one of the very best decisions of my life by choosing not to have children. This decision was made by me when I was 18 or 19 and I had NO IDEA how wise a choice it would turn out to be. I couldn't imagine casting my children into what has become today's society and making them eventual victims of an formally natural environment that has nature turning into a rampaging, destructive beemoth that is bent on swallowing everything in it's path. I know I am NOT the only one glad he didn't bring kid's onto this sinking boat.

People have been predicting "the end" since "the beginning". You can't live life to the fullest if you're too concerned about when it will end. The Bible says to just "watch and pray" and that not even the angels in Heaven know when "the end" is. As far as I'm concerned, "the end" is nothing more than the true beginning. Listen to the song "In the Meantime" by Dolly Parton. That song sums up what I'm trying to explain.

"In the Meantime" by Dolly Parton:

You know people been talking about the end of time ever since time began
We've been living in the last days ever since the first day ever since the
dawn of Man
Well nobody knows when the end is coming but some people tell you they do
Well it might be today, it might be tomorrow, or in a million years or two...

In the meantime, in between time, let us make time to make it right
And let us not fear what is not clear; faith should be your guide, just
follow this advice:

And...
Think about love; Think about living
Think about love sharing and giving
Drop the Doomsday attitude and let the spirit flow
These are wonderful times we're living in
God still walks in the hearts of Men
And Eden's garden waves within so let the flowers grow

Well we rant and we rave about the "good ol' days" and how different it was
"back then"
Well the greatest days we've ever known are the days we're living in
Well we worry about earthquakes, aliens from outer space, nuclear holocaust
Well we're so consumed with the fear of dying; the joy of living is lost

In the meantime, in between time, let us make time to make amends
Lead the good life, just treat this planet right and try to all be friends
and say with me again:

Ohhh... !
Think about life; Think about living
Think about love-- caring and giving
Drop this Doomsday attitude and get on with the show
We've walked on the moon; been to Mars
Technically we've come so far
But still we wonder who we are
The farther along we go
(Doodle-doodle doo-doo-doo... ooh-ooh)

You know people been talking about the end of time ever since time began
We've been living in the last days ever since the first day ever since the
dawn of Man
Well nobody knows when the end is coming—well that's what the Scriptures
say
But that's a secret known only to God, he says to just watch and pray

In the meantime, what's the hurry?
In the meantime now don't you worry
In the meantime live, laugh- be merry
In the meantime, in the meantime
In the meantime troubles gonna show us
In the meantime the sky is still above us
In the meantime you know God's gonna love us
In the meantime, in the meantime, in the meantime...

It sounds like both- and that's cool with me.

If you want more on the sermon end, read 2 Peter 3 to see what God says about the end of time. Jesus will return one day, though we don't know when. Only God The Father knows that. (See Matthew 24:36) 1 Thessalonians 4-5 and 2 Thessalonians 3 also offer some great commands on what to do until the time of the end comes.
Of course, there are a number of other passages you can look at in The Bible, but the most important thing is to know where you stand with Jesus. If you know Him as Savior- if you've trusted in His death on the cross and Resurrection to pay for all your sins and have committed to follow Him in life- then you can rest assured knowing that one day you will be with Him in Heaven. The end will come when it comes- that's all in God's control. He told us there are signs we can look for, yes- but He also told us that it is not for us to know when He will come and set up His kingdom. (See Acts 1).
In the meantime, keep living for Jesus and telling others about Him. Keep loving God with all you've got and love your neighbor as yourself.
Get married, have children and enjoy the life God has given us. Plan to live life as if you will live your full life expectancy, but also watch and pray and live life in anticipation of Christ's coming at any moment.

I don't START posts often on this site, but when I do; it ALWAYS seem as if they are immediately HIJACKED by other posters who twist and turn my original posting into some kind of crazy meaning that I never even intended to discuss in the first place. Once again, this post is to ask if there is anyone; ANYONE (besides myself) that is happy he/she chose NOT to have kids this time around. I do not want to hear from people who HAVE children and consider them a "blessing: or the "best thing" in their otherwise lousy life. I don't want to hear from people like the two post above that put a religios slant on this. My intentions are to hear from those who have a similar viewpoint as I do. If there is no one who reads this that feels the way I do, then, Oh, Well, but at least I will know that my original posting of this thread wasn't twisted, changed, mangled and otherwise misunderstood due to responses that insist on making the subject of this post their OWN.

I dont want kids, mainly because I easily stress out, and wouldnt want something that dependant on me. But I can see your point of view, tho I believe its never too late to change and make the world a better place.

I agree with you, cleverfun. Some people just like to have a soapbox.

My husband and I are childfree by choice. Not because we fear "the end" or where civilization is going, neither one of us had a burning need to reproduce. I don't dislike children--our house and dogs seem to be favorites of the neighborhood urchins, but I've never been interested in selflessly putting myself second for anyone. Selfish? You betcha. What normal person would encourage a selfish person to breed?

I most certainly agree with what you say, with a few qualifying adjustments, however. It's NOT selfishness that made me decide not to have kids. It's just that I wanted to fulfill my absolute potential in my own life so that I can be sure that my kids would have the solid financial stability that would help them navigate life from a more even playing field. What I did continues to take an extreme amount of self control and self respect, because just like most people, I too have sexual needs. But since many a baby was born because of carelessness in that department, I always maintained a high standard of caution and took preventive measures.

Good for you! It irritates me that so many men AND women are so careless with birth control. A child is a lifelong commitment. Unless you want to devote yourself to helping them reach their absolute potential, you shouldn't have them. I think most people should wait until they are in their early 30s to start breeding anyhow. People need to figure out who they are before cranking out the mini-mes.

I'm childfree by choice just like Shozette. It has nothing to do with the fact that the end could be near. It just has something to do with the fact that God didn't really give me an urge to have kids.

I've never wanted them. I don't hate kids. But, I just don't want my own.

Also. Glad to know that there's other childfree by choicers around here. Even though for me. It's not much of a choice...because, I just feel no urge. Yo God, you forgot my biological baby wantin' clock! And, that's just fine by me!

My decision has nothing to do with the way of the world, nothing to do with my religion or anything like that. I just don't want kids.

1)I have severe OCD

2)I'm tokophobic (look it up)

3)I've just never had any desire for kids.

P.S. Zoneboy. You make me LOL sometimes.
