Heart Surviving Gilligan's Pilot

I forgot how good "Two On A Raft" was. Very funny and very entertaining. I like the essence of danger in this episode.

I liked how Ginger claims it was her only dress and that it was ruined. Something like that, one may not think would ever be in the first episode, especially when they just started the series and Ginger would be in that dress nearly every episode.

This episode was almost like three episodes in one for me.
1) Ship wrecked / Gilligan looses the transmitter and radio / Gilligan discovers the radio in a fish he caught.
2) Skipper and Gilligan build a raft and leave the island to go find help
3) The Skipper and Gilligan return to the island thinking it's inhabited by head-hunters.

Wow, thinking back over all the shows, that is a lot to put in one episode. Loved the part where Gilligan and the Skipper camouflage themselves and the professor shoots an arrow into Gilligan's tree trunk. HA!

You're right. This is an excellent, very enjoyable episode! I always laugh that anyone who comes to the island can get off, unless you're one of the unlucky 7. Then you're stuck.

Lol

The funny thing about "Two On A Raft" is that they used clips from the original pilot and when the skipper wakes up on the ship after they land on Gilligan's Island, the original professor, Ginger and Bunny can be seen asleep on the ship. If you haven't seen the Lost Pilot, they are almost impossible to recognize though.

Yep. That is a neat bit of Gilligan trivia.

Is Bunny the original name of MaryAnn?

They changed the name of Bunny when they replaced the actress with Dawn Wells.

Ah, thanks. I'm glad they did. I can't imagine a bunny on the island. A monkey, yes, but not a bunny.

Yes, a very good (and eventful) first episode. I loved the tree disguises and the fight in the cave. Mary Ann at her most adorable in her shorts and halter top and sun hat. The sharks eating the raft. All lots of fun.

Wow, I just watched episode 12, the Christmas episode and wondered why they would be doing a flashback episode so soon in the series.

Well, I just read (The Unofficial Gilligan's Island Handbook),

"The actual pilot was the Christmas episode [Episode 12], where I (Schwartz) managed to salvage two-thirds of the original pilot as a remembrance of how grateful they all were at Christmastime that they weren't killed in the original wreck."

It saved the network some money too reusing footage
