I came across this story today:
http://www.wmctv.com/story/23873948/...s-didnt-notice And thought the tale of the "Risky Business Bandit" near Memphis, TN would be great for a modern-day UM. *sigh* Perhaps we can start a thread with current or very recent mysteries/unsolved crimes/disappearances that would be great to share with fellow UM fanatics?

![]() We could have CrystalDawn be "live in our call center." I don't know who would be RS...perhaps we could hold auditions amongst the board members ![]() I'm not being snarky...I'm serious. We obviously couldn't call it UM, but who better to create a new, (properly) updated version of the show we love so much than the ones who love it? |

The Elisa Lam case is very recent and has been getting some buzz. Very bizarre case:
http://vigilantcitizen.com/vigilantr...ase-elisa-lam/ There is more info available on the web with a simple search. |

Although there has been a conviction and this case has been "solved." I think Chandra Levy's alleged murder would be a solid segment on Unsolved Mysteries.

Elisa Lam took this picture a few weeks before her trip. I find it kind of creepy.

There are several cases on Disappeared that would work, but if you held my feet to the fire and made me pick just one, I think the McStay Family Disappearance would make for a great UM segment.

One case I really wanted to see on UM...that was definitely UM worthy...was the case of The Doodler. He was a guy who would frequent gay bars and he would do a charcoal sketch of the victim he selected, often using the sketch as a reason to engage in conversation with the person. Then he would leave the bar with them and stab them to death. He had about 10 murder victims, and two or three survived and ID'd the killer to police!....BUT, because one surviving victim was a celebrity, and the other a politician or someone important, no one was willing to testify out of fear of "outing" themselves. The cops had the guy and he made many incriminating statements, but never an admission of guilt and they had to let him walk. There is hardly any info on the case, even on the net. I think if UM had aired the case more tips might have come in, and the case might have been solved, rather than seemingly "hidden" or "buried". I live in Ontario, Canada, and grew up in a small town, and there are three VERY creepy unsolved murder/disappearance cases that are definitely UM worthy. One of them involved a woman who was murdered in a gas station/restaurant she owned, brutally gutted and eyes cut out. A guy confessed to a family member of mine that he was there, and that the police know he was there as he told them, but he was 16 at the time and given a wrist slap because he was basically in the wrong place at the wrong time. The actual killer was never charged due to lack of evidence (cops apparently know who he is), and then he apparently moved to Alberta or BC. Super creepy small town story that has been long forgotten since the 70s. |

there are a lot of similar threads on this subject. As far as CURRENT mysteries go, definitely the Smiley Face Killer Theory, which states that there is a serial killer responsible for the many strange drownings of college males. To my knowledge, this hasn't been profiled on any show, please correct me if I'm wrong.
And I also want an investigation into actor Johnny Lewis's death. What the media told was that Johnny killed the old lady and her cat, then accidentally fell to his death, and that's it. I feel there is WAY more to the story than that. First of all, I watched a program last week where one of the witnesses said he broke a bench on Johnny's head and had intended to kill them, then watched him intentionally leap to his death. (that last part about the leaping sounds messed up). There are also reports going around that Johnny himself was strangled. What wasn't reported by the media (and I learned this from Johnny's father, whom I've communicated with) was that Johnny did have some mental problems after being in motorcycle accident (not his fault) and being beat to a bloody pulp behind bars (also not his fault). And contrary to popular belief, there was no alcohol or drugs in his system. What happened to the old lady and her cat was horrible, but I think there is more to the story and Johnny was not some guy who was evil his entire life. He needed mental help and didn't get it. |

I'm too scared to even watch that Elisa Lam video after seeing that photo posted above.

The video of Elisa Lam is interesting, but I don't think it's very mysterious. To me, it's obvious all of the hand gestures and movements were her attempts to get the elevator door to close as she figured it wasn't recognizing someone was in there. The door stayed open for several minutes. This happens all the time at my hotel. Many guests don't realize the doors are locked at night, and they try to wave their hands to get the doors to open, not realizing that doesn't work, and you have to use your key or have somebody let you in.
I'll have to research her death though. |

As for her death being an accident? I am completely unconvinced. There is no way I believe that, at this point. |
