TV "Law & Order: SVU" To Crossover w/ "Chicago PD"

Exclusive: "Law & Order: SVU" Cops To Guest Star on "Chicago PD"
Oct 31, 2013
by Ileane Rudolph

It's not just the firefighter neighbors who will drop in on "Chicago PD", NBCs midseason police-centric "Chicago Fire" spin-off.

Dick Wolf's new cop show gets an official welcome to the "Law & Order" family when "SVU" detectives Fin (Ice-T) and Rollins (Kelli Giddish) share their expertise in an episode most likely airing after February's Winter Olympics, TV Guide Magazine has learned exclusively.

The New York sex-crime cops visit the Windy City precinct, "PD" executive producer Matt Olmstead confirms, for "a case that involves a serial rapist/killer, who the cops believe started his spree in New York and moved on to Chicago. Finn and Rollins are brought in by Detective Voight [Jason Beghe] who heads the [Intelligence] Unit," Olmstead says.

"They work very well with their Chicago counterparts."

Sounds like a return crossover visit to the Big Apple could be in the future.

"Chicago P.D." Sends Sophia Bush to NYC for "Law & Order: SVU" Crossover
Jan 19, 2014
by Kate Stanhope

"Chicago P.D." is sending one of its own into the trenches of the Big Apple.

Sophia Bush, who plays Det. Erin Lindsay on the new NBC drama, is traveling to New York this coming week to shoot a scene for "Law & Order: SVU" with star Mariska Hargitay, executive producer Dick Wolf told reporters Sunday at the network's Television Critics Association winter previews.

"We have a case that we need a little bit of help with that began in New York City and that we're now finding the M.O. in Chicago, and SVU was investigating it when it was up there and now it's on our hands," Bush said.

Bush's scene will air on SVU on Wednesday, Feb. 26 and will be immediately followed by an episode of "Chicago P.D." featuring SVU stars Ice-T and Kelli Giddish.

"I'm the biggest SVU fan," Bush said. "So to have Ice and Kelli come down and work with us and now to be going to work with Mariska, I feel like it's my birthday."

Wolf said he hoped this was just beginning of overlap between the two cop shows. "We're looking at all aspects of this in terms of how these shows can cross-pollinate each other. It's really fun."

Although just two episodes have aired, "Chicago P.D." is no stranger to crossover. Several members of the cast appeared on "Chicago Fire" in multi-episode arcs before the series' Jan. 8 premiere and "Chicago Fire" stars David Eigenberg and Monica Raymund appeared in Episodes 1 and 2, respectively, of P.D.

Wolf noted that the police station used for the exteriors of "Chicago P.D." is just a block and a half away from Firehouse 51. "The fact that these people intermingle is hardly surprising. You will have story lines that may arc over a couple of episodes," he said.

"It's not going to be forced, but it will be, I think, fairly regular."

Wolf teased a major upcoming crossover. "There's going to be a major crossover at the end of the season," Wolf said. "A story that is so big that it involves everybody, and that is going to be really interesting because it does feature that seamless integration that I would love to pull off with these two shows."

Despite the success of SVU, "Chicago Fire" and, thus far, "Chicago P.D.", Wolf was noncommittal when asked about the possibility of creating a second "Chicago Fire" spin-off.

"Our total focus is on making this show work," he said of P.D. "What the future holds, nobody knows. ... I know everybody is involved with this, for better or worse, is trying to turn out the best cop show on TV."
