Default So does this mean Benson is not a syndication type of show???

The show seems to have bombed on two different channels in the past 7 years. First TV Land in 2006 and now Antenna in 2013 which is a shame because I have not had a chance to sample the show.

TV Land took the show off after only one month and now Antenna has removed Benson from it's schedule. why not just change the timeslot?

well for some reason Benson is not catching on in syndication and you have to wonder will it ever be seen again or is it gone forever??

It is strange because it did last in syndication for quite awhile in the 1980's. I think the timeslot was just bad. It was on too late on a Sunday night. I only caught about 4 or 5 episodes.

If you think about it even during the shows original run it wasn't exactly a ratings winner, if any it was just coasting along until a new sitcom would take it's timeslot.

In fact all throughout the 90's in the age of 500 channels I don't think I ever saw in syndicated once.

You know until tonight I never paid attention to the ratings of Benson. I had no idea it was only ranked in the top 30 one time which was the 1st season. After that it was no longer in the top 30.

So now I think I understand why it never caught on in syndication. because it never really caught on during it's original run. lol

Wonder how it lasted so long since that was the case lol

The show aired on Friday nights for 6 seasons so I think it did well enough on that night to be renewed each year, it just was never a big hit. Kinda similar to the TGIF shows from the 90's like Step By Step and Boy Meets World, which were never in the top 30, but lasted as long as Benson did.

Well that explains it, anything airing on friday is not going to have strong numbers

It's a catch-22 for this show. They give it a crappy time slot to begin with (I guess they expect everyone to DVR the show and watch it during normal hours or something), and most shows would bomb at these times. I am not up watching Seinfeld at 3 am either. Then if they do give it a halfway decent slot, they expect miracles overnight.

And Antenna TV had it on once a week and how can any show gain a fanbase when it's only seen 4 times a month?

Benson gets shafted every time it's on in syndication. Horrible time slots and as TVFactFan said, once a week on Antenna wasn't gonna cut it. I remember back in the late 80's, early 90's local philadelphia affiliate Fox29 would show it at 4am during the week. I used to set my alarm and get up and watch it sometimes way before school started, if I could haha. And this is way before dvr or TiVo. That was rough, I was a zombie in school sometimes.

I remember it airing at 7 pm weekdays on one of my local channels in the early to mid 80's. It aired there for 4 or 5 years. It was syndicated more than Soap which I never saw locally. Then it just disappeared.

Oh yes, trust me I remember watching it on Friday nights on channel 6 ABC (along with other shows in that line up) as a kid too, bringing back fond memories of watching it at my aunt's and crossing the street to my grandmother's for a sleepover, which was a lot of the times when I was young. Sometimes the Philadelphia Phillies would play a west coast game on channel 17 and I'd cap off the night watching that haha. Great times!!
