Default Three More Reminders

I realize that I have already posted dozens of threads about how strong an impact "Samantha's Protest" had on me. Because of how strong an impact it had, I find reminders of it everywhere. Well, right now I cannot resist telling you guys that I was reminded of it three times in less than half an hour! For those of you who might be interested, most if not all of the episodes of "Ellen" have been uploaded onto You Tube. Well, I was over there less than an hour ago, and the first episode of the series was on the suggestion bar. I thought that it was as good a way as any to kill upwards of twenty minutes. Early in this episode, Ellen was at the DMV with her friend Holly. When it came time for Ellen to get her picture taken, the man at the desk told her to smile. She became very self-concious. The man told her that there was nothing to be embarrassed about and that she probably had a very pretty smile. This reminded me of a correspondence that I had with a poster on this very page. He pointed out that, when Samantha burst Katie's bubble about the handsome boy from the protest, Julie was smart enough not to make any snide remarks and simply showed her pleasure with a smile. A very pretty smile! Later in the episode, we have Ellen's friend Anita telling her and Adam about some juicy details that she has about Holly's date with a man named Roger. Ellen, more or less referred to Anita as a gossip columnist. She made some remark about Anita acting like someone with no sense of decency. Well, I would say that when Katie flirted her butt of with the handsome boy from the protest she acted like a girl with no sense of decency while Julie acted like the model of decency! Even later in the episode, we have a police officer pulling Ellen over for speeding. While the officer is deciding what to do, Ellen remarks on how tall he is. She makes the remark, "your crotch comes up to my window"! For me, this was yet another association! When Nell commanded the protesters to lock arms, Katie grabbed the boy that she liked with both of her arms and positioned her body so that her bosoms were pressed against his upper body and her crotch was leaning against his leg. This is the behavior that Julie referred to as absolutely disgusting! It is usually the word disgusting that brings my mind back to that episode. Three associations in one episode! Wow!

I see that, in the recent past, someone other then me started a new thread on this page. I have since replied to this thread. Being that I can see that other viewers are out there, I have decided to bring this thread to the top of the page. I would be very interested in what other posters think of the associations that I have made from one situation to the next.

Notice how right below this thread is another one started by me and that I brought to the top of the page. Also notice how the same poster who responded to that one responded to this one. Whenever I write anything about "Samantha's Protest" she tends to tell me about how much I have already written about that particular episode. As different as she and I think, there is one thing that we have in common. We are both protected by the Freedom of the Press Amendment! In any event, I brought that last thread to the top to tell you guys about one thing regarding "Samantha's Protest" that I happened to be thinking about, and now I am raising this one to tell you about another. The second thing has to do with the Lone Ranger. There is an old joke about the Lone Ranger and Tonto being surrounded by five hundred hostile Indians. The Lone Ranger says, "oh my goodness Tonto, what are we going to do"?

Tonto then responds to this question with "what do you mean me white man"? In this scenario, Tonto is a fair weather friend to the Lone Ranger. Well, I would say that in "Samantha's Protest", Katie was a fair weather from to Samantha." Before Katie knew that the boy that she liked was part of the demonstration, she had no interest in the cause that Samantha was standing up for. After seeing the boy at the protest, she started to act like she would do anything for her darling baby sister. It was clear to Samantha, Julie and Nell that Katie was a complete phony. However, there was nothing that they could do to keep her from joining the movement if she wanted to. I would be very interested in what other people think of how Tonto's existence as a fair weather from to the Lone Ranger measures up to Katie's existence as a fair weather sister to Samantha.
