As I was looking at the TV Land website to try to find out what might be on TV Land Canada I looked at next weekend's schedule and I was very happy with the quality of shows but rather puzzled and disturbed by their timing. You see, next weekend, TV Land will be running shows that have a military theme to them, stuff like "Hogan's Heroes", "Gomer Pyle", and "F Troop". Normally, I would welcome them with open arms, but, given the tragic events of Tuesday morning, does it seem right to air shows that basically make fun of our armed forces when there is a possibilty of a real war that could happen soon? Or do these shows have the opposite effect, by helping us to laugh at war and its absurdities? What do you think?

They're television shows. Sure, they do make fun, in a way, of our military, but of our military YEARS ago. There is nothing good nor bad abotu them airing these, and the tragic incidents that occured on Tuesday should not change that. They're classic television shows. That's all. They're funny and they make people laugh.

Don't forget, "Gomer Pyle" originally aired at the height of the Vietnam War, and took place in the present day (unlike "F Troop" and "Hogan's Heroes"). I don't think there was much controversy about it back then, and would guess there wouldn't be today. But if these shows are airing as part of a "Military Marathon" of some sort, then I could see TV Land postponing that type of theme.

TV Land replaced the Military Marathon with Leave it to Beaver.
