I think if ABC woke up and smelled the coffee they would get their ratings back. Networks have always had staple nights. Since the 80's NBC has always had it's invincible Thursday night line up. Fox has always had Sunday's on lock down, as well as the WB. CBS is Mondays, and now UPN's monday line up seems pretty stable. Millionaire pretty much ruined ABC. But I think their first mistake was selling Family Matters to CBS, no one watched TGIF after Family Matters left. If ABC went back to their Friday night schedule,(with decent family shows) they'd be SURE to get it back. Or at least put some decent shows in Home Improvement, Roseanne, Grace Under Fire, and Coach's old time slots. I mean come on....My Wife and Kids is the highest rated comedy on ABC??? Get rid of Drew Carey, Dharma & Greg and Spin City. Who the hell still watches these shows????

ABC is starting to recoportate I think. Ever so slowly though. "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" was more of a blessing though. It's first season on the air, it was the #01, #02, AND #03 show on the air. I've always thought of ABC's Wednesday Lineup as being they're 'staple' night since they're two hit comedies are on there with "The DrewCarey Show"..and I still think "Spin City" & "The Drew Carey Show" are good, though they've both seen better days. Now, with "Dharma & Greg", I know that's seen better days since I tuned off after Greg went wacko.

ABC is in trouble.
- They dropped "TGIF" because they wanted to move away from the kid's programming and shoot for a more adult demo (namely the 18-24's watching Friends) Dismantling as lineup that was winning Friday nights was not the smartest thing to do. - They lost some long running shows (Roseanne, Home Improvement) and the shows meant to take up the slack need to be put out to pasture. - They've had trouble developing new sitcoms, relying on stuff built around so called "stars" (The Geena Davis Show was a textbook example of crap) - Showing "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" eighty times a week was bound to drive people nuts after a while. ABC has had some success with their new family shows. I think they could build on "My WIfe And Kids" and "According To Jim", and find a better lead in for "The Job" which is the best show they have right now. I hope they give Drew a nice send off though. His show was entertaining. |

ABC was foolish to bet the farm on a fad. Millioniare was a ratings smash and as a result, they cut back on development. "Drew Carey," "Spin City," and "Dharma" were never big hits, but time slot performers. "Spin" and "Dharma" also suffered from getting a new time slot every year. Now they trumpet "My Wife" and "According to Jim" as hits when both would have yanked after two weeks a few years ago.
The real solution is to give me my own show. I can save the network! http://winkwilliams.blogspot.com/ |

One word:
Disney The corporate machinery of Disney (who owns ABC) has chewed up the whole network and spit it back out. The viewers are left with the results.

I haven't any idea what ABC shoud or should't do; I hardly watch anything on ABC so what do I know. But I do know that a small amount of executives are paid tremendously huge sums of money to figure out what it is that you and I would like to watch. Can it really be that difficult to ask a few questions, make a few observations, and make a few good decisions based on information that has been recycling itself for about 50 years, or More if you count radio before TV as the entertainment brought into the households of the earth's populace?
