I'm watching this show for the first time.
Although I must admit that it isn't my favorite sitcom (I still prefer 'Frasier' and 'Roseanne'... for now...), I think it's the perfect one. I think of it as the very best definition of what a sitcom should be, with the perfect mix of family, heart, comedy and drama. I'm glad I'm seeing it of the first time

That's cool that you are watching it for the first time and are enjoying it.
It's the best show ever, in my opinion.

Wow- that's awesome! I totally agree- "Family Ties" is one of my favorite sitcoms ever. This show does make me laugh out loud and cry at times and cheer. It's such a great show with a lot of heart, humor and love.

I wish politicians and people of the Democrat and Republican parties and all the others (Green Party, Independent, etc.) could learn to get along the way The Keatons did on "Family Ties". I think this show was such a great model to show how liberals and conservatives can get along and disagree agreeably and still love each other. In some ways, I see the Keaton family as a picture of America as a country- and Steven and Elyse obviously representing the liberal viewpoint (and probably Jennifer too- Mallory I think is somewhat more conservative- but maybe more of an independent) and Alex and Andy obviously representing the conservative viewpoint- but no matter their differences, they all loved each other deeply because they're a family and they allowed each other to be themselves and to do things that maybe they didn't agree with- and they also supported each other sometimes in causes they perhaps didn't agree that much with out of love for each other- and I think maybe they even learned from each other too.
But the family unit was always the most important thing and ultimately, no matter what differences they had, they loved each other and that was always so good to see on "Family Ties". I wish America could learn to come together like that- but of course, the only way we can truly learn to bond and set aside all other differences is through Christ. E plubirus unum, as our money says in Latin- From many, one. That's what God does through Jesus- He takes many from all kinds of backgrounds and makes us one family through our faith in Jesus' death and Resurrection. (Galatians 3:26-29)

I loved Family Ties and recently I caught an ep on On Demand and it was fun to see Michael J Fox at such a young age. It's an amazing show and dare I say a hundred times better than his new show?
