Default An End if Itself

Once upon a time, I posted a message called "Social Studies". You would have to read the initial thread to understand what that title has to do with the show itself or the content of the post. However, I will tell you now that it is one of a bunch of threads that I have started dealing with my fondness for the third-season episode "Samantha's Protest". This thread is one of a minority of threads started by me that managed to stir up some conversation for a while. The last post that was submitted by on this thread was by me and it was on the 27th of last month. It has since been pushed down a ways by a bunch of other threads. I have since thought of something new to add to the same topic. However, I decided rather than bump that one up, I would just go ahead and start a new thread.

At the protest, the girls' father, who happened to be the chief of police said that it was an illegal entry on the part of the protesters and that he had no choice but to arrest them if they did not give up. Simpson who was the chief's second in command was there to give him support. At this point, Nell had already become part of the protest and was standing at Samantha's side. Very shortly after Nell joined the demonstration, Julie ran over to the other side of Samantha and said "my place is with my sister"! I thought that she sounded very bubbly and acted very much the way a big sister should act. I also really liked the flowing blue skirt that she was wearing! Good for her!

It happened that the boy that Katie was drooling over was on the other side of Julie. Katie ran between Julie and the boy and said "she's my sister too"! She then started showering the boy with complements. It was clear that she was simply using the protest as an opportunity to flirt with the boy. I agree with Julie that her behavior was disgusting! After Katie had been standing next to the boy for about thirty seconds, Nell commanded all of the protesters to lock arms. I think that, given what the other protesters were doing, common sense should have told Katie to take Julie's arm with her right arm and the boy's with her left to be part of the chain. Instead, she grabbed the boy with both of her arms and pressed her bosoms against his upper body! Unfortunately for Katie the line of protesters ended with her tough, no nonsense sister Julie. Julie used her left arm to grab Katie's right and spun her around so she was facing in the same direction as the other protesters. At this point, all of the demonstrators started to sing their protest song. By the way, I was fourteen years old when this episode first came out. At that point, I already looked at song as a beautiful form of self expression. When Julie sang along with everyone else, it was clear that she was doing it because she wanted to support Samantha, believed in the cause and had an overall bubbly personality. However, it was still quite obvious that Katie was still using the protest as a way to stay close to the boy. When she sang along, singing was simply one part of a means to an end. The end being getting asked out by the male protester. I think that, if Katie had been a nice girl, she would have looked at the opportunity to sing as an end in itself! Who here agree's with me?
