Actually I saw it today on TNT. It was the first time I saw "the verison you haven't seen." Which included the infamous spider walk scene. I would have to say they really didn't need to cut that and the other scenes out when it was originally released in 1973. I think those scenes added to the horror and in some cases those cut scenes were necessary.

However, this movie is not my favorite horror movie. When I first saw it in 1997, it did indeed scare me. But The Shining, is by far a better horror movie, every time I see it, it scares me to death.

Thumbs down

'The Exorcist' isn't scary. In fact I thought it was actually pretty boring right up untill the actual exorcism itself which almost had me peeing myself with laughter!
I love horror movies but I just watch 'em to see the blood and guts cos I don't actually find 'em scary. If someone knows of a horror movie that could scare fearless ol' me then I'd love to hear about it.

Personally, I don't find the blood and guts horror movies scary. The best horror movies are those that use blood and guts only when necessary. If used effectively then it's good. Horror movies that rely more on suspense then gore are by far the best. As for being scary, it really depends on when you see them. I first saw a part of The Shining at age 10 and believe me that scared me. It wasn't until I was 15 when I saw the whole thing. Also the horror movies with the least amount of special effects also seem to be very good.

Here's my top 10 list of favorite horror movies:

1. The Shining (1980)
2. The Omen (1976)
3. Dressed to Kill (1980)
4. Halloween (1978)
5. The Exorcist (1973)
6. Friday the 13th (1980)
7. Psycho (1960)
8. Carrie (1976)
9. The Amityville Horror (1979)
10. Don't Look Now (1973)

Okay....

The Shining scared the $h!t outta me! After the whole thing with the twins, I stopped watching it.

The Exorcist was scary, but yeah itwas hilarious too. Like the part at the doctors office. And the crucfix part. And the piano part. The spider walk thing was sooooooooooooooooooo funny!! What other scenes did they add?

okay...right off the bat The Shining is the most terrifying beacause of the fact its a father who snaps and trys to kill his family.Always a LOT more freaky than a "Boogie Man"like Freddy....although after Freddy who wanted to go in thier basement alone?
The Exorcist cured anyone of wanting to play with a Ouija board! And if you werent religious before seeing that movie...you were after.Same with The Omen. Demonic Possesion is pretty frickin scarey. The blood and guts stuff isnt as scarey as Jack Nicholson chasin you with an axe!!!!
If you like gross blood and guts rent Dead Alive. Its nasty.

I just saw the Exorist when it was played recently on TNT, it's definately scary but not as scary as The Shinning. I still have nightmares about that movie.

But just a little, F.Y.I, did you know Dana Plato audition for the role that was ultimately given to Linda Blair. But she later turned it down because her stepmother disapproved of it. Just thought that was interesting.
