I would've thought somebody would have noted this by now, but congratulations to Bob Newhart on finally winning an Emmy Award, as a guest star on The Big Bang Theory!
This got me to thinking about the obvious question, though. Bob never won an Emmy for The Bob Newhart Show? What a travesty! Or even Newhart, (although I didn't watch that show)? I just don't have the time, but if anybody is feeling adventurous, it might be fun to look up who he was up against each year...I mean, he HAD TO HAVE BEEN nominated a few times for TBNS, right? I can guarantee you that at least once I would have given the nod to Bob over whomever else was on the ballot!!!! Such a great show and such a fantastic delivery! |

Wow! Excellent work, Little Ricky, thank you!
So Bob WASN'T nominated at all during The Bob Newhart Show run!? Outrageous! But yes, he did go up against some tough competition. Yet without disparaging the actors/shows, I do see a couple of instances during TNBS era when I think Bob could have/should have been nominated in their stead. Not many instances, but some! If pressed, I will name them. I can't comment as much about the Newhart era, as I didn't get to watch that show much (I know he was brilliant). At least he was nominated a few times, though. And I'm sure the other actors he went against were all excellent, but I didn't watch as many of those shows, either. ---- Also, very interesting about the 1962 award. It's phrased a little differently, but that was in effect that year's Emmy for best comedy show, right? Not an indivudual award for Bob, but a great honor! I just read, though, that The Bob Newhart Show was only nominated for Best Comedy once, in 1977 (the same year Suzy Pleshette was nominated for Outstanding Continued Performance By An Actress In A Comedy Series). I'm guessing if I saw THAT list of shows, I'd see a couple of instances during those years when I would've slipped TBNS in there, too. But there WERE a lot of great sitcoms during that era. Anybody who watched The Bob Newhart Show recognized its quality, but it's always nice to be recognized for your work! |
