Default Local Channels much better then N&N

Last night I watched Cheers on one of my local channels and quickly found it to be much better then it is on Nick at Nite. The episode began right at the time it was scheduled to begin and I got to see more of the episode because N&N cuts episodes down to about 21 minutes while on local channels they're about 22 minutes. In my opinion, Nick at Nite spoils this show and it almost seems that Nick at Nite is trying to get people to dislike it, by constantly overplaying it.

What do you think?

I wish one of my local stations would show Cheers. The FOX station here in Portage, MI stopped showing Cheers in 1997. After that, I bought some tapes from Columbia House and Paramount. I stopped when I knew it was coming to Nick at Night.

Of course, when Cheers started on N@N, it was great. Uncut marathon, first 3 seasons uncut as well. But then the 4th season came. It started out uncut, but then they switched to the cut versions. What was worse than that was when N@N started skipping lots of episodes around the same time. I'd imagine some new viewers may have had some questions related to this, like:
"Who did Sam call to ask to marry him?"

"Did Carla and Eddie ever get married in an episode?"

"Why did the Cranes get divorced?"

It got so bad for me that I stopped watching regularly. I think it would be really good if TBS or WGN could buy the syndication packaged episodes of Cheers. TBS and WGN are totally within their rights to do that if they wanted to. TBS and WGN would probably air all 275 episodes.

I've timed Diff'rent Strokes, Family Ties, and The Facts of Life from Nick at Nite and they were all around 22 minutes.. I've not timed any Cheers but would be surprised if they cut them down more then any of their other series. Have you actually timed the episodes or are you just guessing?

its weird cuz my local ABC station airs Cheers every so often(and just Sunday actually). "Home is the Sailor" aired. the beginning was pretty cut up, but thats only cuz it was syndicated, and the ending part was kinda important, so...

it was kinda weird though cuz in the teaser, it was supposed to be:

Frasier: You know, Woody, some things never change
Woody: And don't you forget it.
<shot of Frasier laughing>

but they cut out Woody's line and the shot of Frasier laughing, and cut directly to the opening theme. It almost seemed like N@N cuz they just cut right to the theme. there wasnt any fading or anything, just Frasier saying his line and the theme starting.

another weird thing is the station is some special Stereo-only station, so it only airs seasons 4-11. but it shows Cheers in a strange Mono/stereo mix. i dunno, but it IS better than N@N

You've got to remember that in terms of actual show, not including opening and closing credits, on local stations, they show more. On Nick at Nite they usually show the full length version of the theme song while for the most part on local channels they show the shortened version leaving more time for scenes from the show. This is also the case with Family Ties. Syndicated packages never showed the full length version of the theme song so they could show more scenes from the show. That is also what Lifetime is doing with The Golden Girls.

Nick at Nite has been using the short credits on Cheers for months. Maybe N@N does show the long version for Family Ties. Maybe that's the advantage of being buried on N@N's schedule.

Really, well, every time I watch Cheers on Nick at Nite it's always the full version of the theme song. However, I haven't watched Nick at Nite in months, so I don't keep track anymore.

Nick at Nite changed to the Short theme back in mid-November. For the marathon in October, they showed the full themes(well, that was expected cuz the marathon was uncut). actually, for the last few nights of the marathon, at late night, they used the short theme (they must have figured no one was watching so they could show a short theme and sneak in more commercials) but the eps were still uncut.

For the rest of October and til mid-Nov, for seasons 1, 2, and most of 4, they showed the long theme.

Then N@N must have realized that the tapes of the short theme they had for each season could be used, along with (badly lol) cut episodes, and show a few more commercials.

i've only seen the full theme twice since November(on N@N), and that was during the Woody marathon.

i think ive said this b4, but just to clear it up(for some ppl), Nick at Night is NOT showing the syndicated cuts of the show. They are the original NBC airings, remastered, and N@N is cutting them themselves.
