We Are Men' canceled: Fall's second fatality

We Are Men. We are low rated. We are gone.

CBS’ men-of-a-certain-age sitcom is being pulled from the network’s Monday night lineup after two episodes. The comedy starring Tony Shalhoub, Jerry O’Connell, Chris Smith and Kal Penn as single men was perhaps envisioned as an heir to long-running hit Two and a Half Men, but the comedy struggled to take advantage of its powerful How I Met Your Mother lead-in. Monday’s final episode had 5.4 million viewers and a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating.

The network will fill the 8:30 p.m. slot next week by sliding 2 Broke Girls a half hour earlier. At 9 p.m., CBS will have Big Bang Theory repeats for the next couple weeks. Then, starting Nov. 4, Mike & Molly will return, marking its fourth season premiere. The move potentially might give fellow under-performing 9:30 p.m. freshman comedy Mom a better shot at survival, by having Big Bang repeats and Molly as a lead-in — Chuck Lorre sitcoms leading into a Chuck Lorre sitcom.

The decision also represents another week of life for Hostages at 10 p.m. On paper, it seemed as though CBS would pull the kidnapping drama this week given its ratings have fallen to only 5.2 million viewers and a 1.2 rating after three episodes compared to only two episodes for the higher-rated Men. But in a way, Hostages is arguably only hurting its own time period. We Are Men is a drag on the ticket and arguably impacts nearly the entire night. By replacing the first weak link in the chain instead of the second (Mom) or third (Hostages), CBS will have a chance to see if improved flow will strengthen the other soft spots.

This is a WTF moment, what happened to giving a show a chance to develope before getting canned after two episodes. Ridiculous!!
