Nell was way too MEAN to Addy! - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I always thought Nell had a tendency to treat Addy like dirt. But I just got through watching the episode called The Apartment, and Nell was just SO over the top MEAN to Addy! Nell had the nerve to rent an apartment for her and Addy without even telling Addy, and then she has even more nerve to give Addy a hard time when she objects. Nell calls Addy "dull" among all of her yelling and screaming. I hate the way Nell treated Addy. She treated her worse than Ralph Kramden treated Norton.

I agree with you. I could not stand that and wondered why Addy kept being her friend. However, Addy got her good in their argument:

Nell: ...cause when we were little girls, it was I who took pity on the tall, skinny, ugly girl with no personality!!!

Addy: Oh, really? Well, have you ever considered that it was I who took pity on the short, fat girl with the BIIIIG MOUTH!!!

I love that line! I was rooting for Addy. Nell should have consulted with Addy first. Now, was glad for Nell because she finally got an opportunity with a career. That was a touching moment between the two. I loved it when mama Maybelle and took over and started yelling those suggestions for the new apt. Nell went crying into Addy's arms. That cracked me up!!!

I always thought Addy was the much better friend between the two. Addy put up with a ton of Nell's nastiness. I felt bad for her a lot. There was one episode where Nell actually took Addy's little Christmas tree and threw it out the window! Nell was being a selfish witch because she and Addy were arguing over some stupid man that lived in Addy's apartment building.

Let's not forget when Addy made her 1st appearence on GAB...She tells the Kaninski Sisters about overcoming the stereotypes in African-American Culture and Nell Harper comes in cleaning the house!

Nell takes-out her frustration on the Kaniskis when she heard that Addy was the teacher in her night class. She even makes Chief Carl worry about Nell and Nell puts whipped cream in Julie's glasses making her cry and Carl told Julie you were asking for it. Nell apologizes to the Kaniskis for her behavior and Addy stops by and Nell shares her frustraions.

Though Nell and Addy are BFF (Best Friends Forever)...I think Nell spent TOO much time with the Chief!
