It did run about 2 seasons too long and for a highly -rated show it started looking cheaply made, but I still don't think it boned. Some gags were stretched thin to get 2 episodes out of what could have easily been one, but they kept the original cast intact and I loved the show even to the end.
I am actually happy there was no final episode with the predictable weddings, moving away, and all the contrived things they do nowadays to have a "finale". As it is you can still imagine them being there today - even though Jed and Granny would be very old and Elly would be 80 and still unwed.
(I know Granny supposedly "died" in that god-awful movie (but I refuse to acknowledge it as anything but a bad skit). Somewhere granny still rides with the Rebel army.

IN Legend Of The Beverly Hillbillies, Jed moved back home to "The Hills", Granny had passed, and I believe Elly and Jethro were still in Californy.

That reunion movie never should have happened. Irene Ryan and Raymond Bailey had died and Max Baer had refused to return. That should have been enough to convince people not to make it.
