Default Would you watch a Mama's Family remake?

If a network decided to revive Mama's Family/The Family with Vicki Lawrence playing Mama and a younger cast playing the other roles would you be interested?

If they re-worked the history of the characters they could even create new roles for the older actors. (Example: Carol Burnett could play Thelma's older sister, etc.)

Remake, revival, whatever. I would just love to see Vicki Lawrence playing Mama on network television again. The comedies on today just can't compare.

I'd even be happy with one final sketch between Mama and Eunice. I wouldn't even care if they didn't look age appropriate. TVLand needs to get on this and get Carol and Vicki a new sitcom.

I've noticed a lot of people saying Tyler Perry's Love Thy Neighbor is like a contemporary Mama's Family. I've never seen it though.

I would watch a new version of Mama's Family, just not on television. I'd most likely wait until it comes out on home video. I don't watch television today because in my opinion, it has became nothing but a politically-correct propagandic pun. As for the remake, I could only see that being done by some sort of spoof on Family Guy.

I don't know, Geek. You know the old saying, "You can't go home again." ? I don't think I would like to see other people playing the roles or even them playing different characters with Vicki as the only original.
Much more than that though, I share Coyface's view of television today, and would be afraid they would just ruin the legacy of Mama's Family for us old fans and possibly new ones.

Now, with that said, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing some tv specials of Mama's Family with the original cast, even if they are older, but wiser. Just to see what the characters would be up to now.

I'd only watch if Eunice was apart of the cast.

If they got Vicki to be Mama again, then I would definitely watch. It'd be interesting to have Mama's take on things nowadays. But if it was a different cast, then I'd probably only watch the first one or something to see how it was. You can't have Mama without Vicki though!

Most definitely! As much as I enjoy the original series, I'd like to see a new take on things. Vicki Lawrence as Mama is a must and having the old cast make appearances would be great. Can I hear another Knock-knock?

I loved it when Mama made pop culture references in the original series. I can only imagine the kinds of things Mama would say about our modern world.

If they can get Vicki Lawrence to be Mama again, then I would definitely watch a reboot of this series. And if they can get the show continuity right this time!

I'd STILL LOVE to see Carol play Eunice!

I just wonder if Vicky and Carol could still have the energy to play Eunice and Mama at their ages today.

NO NO NO! NOT really a remake! A continuation of the original! Like what Full House is doing and what Boy Meets World is doing with Girl Meets World! With the original cast and the teenagers that Mama would be raising would be Bubba's kids!

some shows shouldn't be touched, though i do love that there is a mama stage act, the character is more reminiscent of her family sketch days. to revive the show it's hard to think of a cast that could do the show true justice.

that said though check out the show mrs. brown's boys an irish tv show that really seems like an updated version of the show. albeit different in many aspects, the character mammy really does seem to have channeled the cruder spirit of mama.

As long as Vicki Lawrence is Mama! But Carol Burnett, Ken Berry, and Betty White are too old to play her children, anymore.

Maybe the premise could be, Bubba and his family moving in with Mama.

Interesting! Thanks for the suggestion. I watched an episode on youtube and thought it was quite hilarious!

Great ideas! Just goes to show there are many different approaches to this. I'd love to see Mama dealing with teenagers of the 21st century.

Agreed on both counts. I don't think Betty White and Ken Berry could pass at all for playing Mama's kids anymore. Carol Burnett, maybe. But if there is a reincarnation, I hope it combines the network and syndicated versions of the show. Maybe bring Eric Brown and Karin Argoud back at some point.
I would not want to see the family history rewritten at all.
