Exclamation Jack Klugman’s Son Calls Dad's Omission from TV Academy Special Tribute "Criminal"

Jack Klugman’s Son Calls Dad’s Omission in TV Academy’s Special In Memoriam Tribute “Criminal”: AP
by THE DEADLINE TEAM
Saturday September 21, 2013

Adam Klugman is fuming over his father’s exclusion from an expanded special tribute at this weekend’s Primetime Emmys that includes Cory Monteith.

I think it’s criminal,” Klugman tells The Associated Press. “My dad was at the inception of television and helped build it in the early days.

Jack Klugman, a three-time Emmy winner and star of "The Odd Couple" and "Quincy M.E.", died in December. He, Larry Hagman and others who died in the past year will be part of a traditional In Memoriam remembrance during the awards ceremony, but not in a special tribute to five individuals: Monteith, James Gandolfini, Jean Stapleton, Jonathan Winters and Gary David Goldberg.

The TV Academy announced the special tribute earlier this week.

Adam Klugman took particular issue with Monteith’s inclusion.

It’s an insult and it really seems typical of this youth-centric culture that has an extremely short attention span and panders to only a very narrow demographic of young adults,” he said.

The show’s exec producer Ken Ehrlich defended Monteith’s inclusion in a conference call with reporters earlier this week.

Cory’s appeal was to maybe a little different generation than some of the others, and we felt they needed to be represented,” Ehrlich said, reminding reporters that Monteith was “just 31” when he died under “very tragic circumstances.

He's another one that should have been honored.

Some people claim the only reason Cory was chosen over Jack is because he was on a show that promotes a gay agenda.

Oh No

I am offended that they would honor a drug addict while ignoring someone who survived cancer. Not to mentioned he had a much longer and more lauded career!!

How about a link to some of these people? I've read several articles about this and not once have I seen anything about a gay agenda.

I think the reason Cory was picked was because of the younger demographics. To tell you the truth I recognized his face from Glee but I didn't even know his name. That's how much out of the loop I am.

These "some people" must have the great misfortune of having a brain that does not operate.

I don't even watch Glee, but it's obvious why he is getting a tribute. It's an extremely popular, current show, and he passed away at such a young age. It's no excuse for Jack not to get a tribute, but it's incredibly apparent why Cory would get one over him.

Why can't they just show *all* the TV stars/performers who passed this year, no matter what the circumstances? Seriously, maybe they could have skipped one commercial this year to properly honor those who had passed?

Well, I watched the In Memoriam segment, and they mentioned Klugman and Hagman.

I guess it's better than nothing.

They didn't mention the following:

Cliff Osmond
Don Medford
Reinhold Weege
Gary Collins
Lance LeGault
Lisa Robin Kelly
Dennis Burkley
Gail Kobe
Steve Forrest
Malachi Throne
Joe Conley
Frank Bank
Ned Wertimer
Henry Polic II

The in memoriam segment was a joke again this year and that god-awful violin music didn't help matters any. I'm particularly po'd about the omission of Steve Forrest but of course there wasn't enough time to honor everyone. What a freakin' lame-ass excuse.

Total disrespect of a Television legend! Something's wrong when they would choose to honor a drug addict over a true TV legend.

Is your name Vahan? I asked for a link to any article where it mentions a gay agenda in regards to Cory Monteith being picked over Jack Klugman for an individual in memoriam honor. Believe it or not, I already knew that the ones you mentioned are gay. While we're at it, what makes Michael Douglas questionable and where do you get the idea that Glee and dancing are gay?

I agree - there has to be some way to do that.

Not to mention that Jack Klugman was actually an Emmy WINNER, but I digress...
