Confused Naomi's Husbands

Inconsistency: In the episode "Soup To Nuts" Naomi mentions each of her husbands, Tommy Lee, Leonard, and George(?). I thought Vinton was her third husband!

This is one of the bigger screw ups they did. I think it was also mentioned in an earlier episode that her 1st husband's name was Tommy Ray.

Actually this instance is not a mistake. There is a technicality to it.

Notice Naomi does not say "husbands"--she says "Since then, every man in my life has inspired a new ingredient". So while George was not a husband he could have been a lover or boyfriend of hers between Leonard and Vint.

And since her 1st marriage was about 20 years ago maybe she just got mixed up on Tommy's middle name lol.

Good point, '80sSitcoms.

I've also wondered about the comment that mama makes to Fran in the episode "Fran's Dress" about having 4 screaming kids under her feet. Who was the other kid? Maybe Iola?

Make Sense to me, I'll accept that explanation.

Actually, if you don't consider "The Family" and Eunice, The Teleplay, Mama's Family was pretty good at keeping things consistent, unlike, The Golden Girls!

And apparently Naomi had many encounters in her past but I take her quote "every man in my life" to mean every man that she had a serious relationship with.

I like to think they (Mama and the writers) meant Philip too. But I can also see how you would consider Iola in a different way as well.

I'm sure she could have easily been referring to Vint and Naomi's as kids since they are living in her house and always screaming under her feet.

Believe me, that couldn’t have been possible. Naomi LOVED men, so if she was talking about lovers or boyfriends as well, she would have mentioned MUCH more of them. So, I assume that she had to have been talking about husbands only.

The strangest thing to me is, Vint knew Naomi as "Naomi Oats" from high school, yet Oats was the name of Naomi's second husband.... In high school Naomi should not have been Oats.....unless by coincidence her maiden name was Oats and that also happened to be the name of her 2nd husband as well
