I've always wondered about the correct way to spell Iola's last name. I've seen it spelled both Boylen and Boylan. Even on the new StarVista complete series, it's spelled both ways. In the album it's spelled "Boylen" but on one of the features it's spelled "Boylan".
I've also seen it spelled "Boyland". Anyone know the official spelling? |

I don't know the official but it is definitely not "Boyland". I don't know where some people thought they heard a "d" because there is clearly not one there. At least we're getting proof of that now with the set despite the vowel switch lol.

I have a script from the second season episode "Mama Buys a Car" and in a scene that was deleted in syndication, Mama makes a remark about "crazy Mrs. Boylan". I guess that's as official as it gets.

"Boylan" is what I favor.

I looked up Boylen and Boylan in the phone book. The name Boylen does not exist, but there are about 25 Boylans. So my guess is Boylan.

Hmm it may actually be "Boylen" because that's how it's spelled in all of the printed materials with the box set.
Or it could have been "Boylan" in the network days and "Boylen" in the syndicated days. A Mama mystery lol. |

I won a Mama script from the third season where Vint thinks he was adopted...and it's written as Iola Boylan...from eBay years ago.

I always think of it as being spelled as "Boylen", just because of how it sounds when Iola says it when she says her name. But I am not totally disagreeable to "Boylan" as well, because it could be that. But "Boyland" is right out.

It's spelled "Boylen" yet again on the big campaign poster signs the CLL carries for Iola in "Ladies Choice" when she goes to debate Mama.
