Default Sophia coming to live with the Girls

I always thought this was weird. Now granted, Sophia needed a new place to stay in the pilot since her nursing home burnt down, but how is it possible she just up and moved in without even asking Blanche if it was ok? I'm still baffled about the 4 bedrooms that all have bathrooms situation.

And if Shady Pines had burnt to the ground, why was Sophia so petrified of it? Perhaps it was improved since it apparently had been rebuilt?

I also found it very odd that a house of average/small size would have FOUR bedrooms! But I didn't realize all the bedrooms had bathrooms. I used to think there was just a bathroom in Blanche's master bedroom and one bathroom in the hallway. Very confusing.

I agree. What's even more confusing is Coco in the pilot. I used to think that since he was the chef that maybe he didn't LIVE there, but then I just rewatched the pilot and he's there in a robe and it looks like he's sleeping there. So did they have FIVE bedrooms (?!) or maybe Sophia and Dorothy roomed together like they would occasionally later on.

Default Shady Pines...

it was rebuilt; we just don't know when. The Golden Palace showed Sophia there, and it looked pretty luxurious by that time.

Interesting that it was never implicitly stated that Shady Pines had been rebuilt, but the fact that Dorothy was always threatening Sophia with putting her back there leads me to believe it had been!

Honestly, I can't think of a show that had more inconsistencies then The Golden Girls. LOL. The bathrooms were just one of many. I can recall one episode where Dorothy stated that they only had one bathroom. But, on other occasions it was stated that Blanche, Sophia, and Dorothy all had their own bathrooms. I can't remember if it was ever said that Rose had a bathroom.

I don't think it ever did either. Another inconsistency that happened in the show in one episode Dorothy claimed she was 6 years old when that Sophia's mother died. However, in the Mother's Day episode it clearly shows Sophia's Mother and Dorothy was a grown woman.

I don't remember them ever indicating they all had their own bathrooms. Blanche definitely did (we saw it in the pilot episode) but that was the only master suite in the house, I believe. Remember in one episode, Dorothy and Rose were replacing a toilet and doing plumbing in the main bathroom the rest of the girls used. They also showed "joint ownership" of a bathroom in the episode where Max and Sophia come back from their honeymoon and Dorothy and Max end up in the bathtub at the same time!

Here's the scoop on the bathrooms, folks. Yes, all four bedrooms were shown or said to have their own bathroom (!). However, in the episode where Rose and Dorothy replace the toilet, that is "the" bathroom, ostensibly the only one, or understood as the only one other than the master bathroom (Blanche's).

So:

Blanche is said to have her own bathroom.

Dorothy is show to have her own bathroom (she comes out with towels in the episode where Stan spends the night before surgery).

Sophia is shown to have her own bathroom (she comes out of it into her bedroom wearing her wedding dress).

Rose is said to have her own bathroom (Blanche, to Rose in the kitchen: "There you are! I just spent 5 minutes telling your bathroom door everything was gonna be alright!")

So you can pick and choose which episodes' logic to go off of, or you can believe all 4 bedrooms had a bathroom and the hallway has a bathroom, lol; which, according to where the garage is, couldn't have existed anyway!

You could also make a case for the Golden Girls children. Not they werent telling the truth but have you noticed that the children were played by different actors/actresses? Gloria, Dennis, Kate, Big Daddy.

Or watch Empty Nest in the final season or two, where Sophia lives at Shady Pines.
