Post What's Happening to Family Ties on UP?

I have looked at he UP network schedule the last few weeks. Last Friday for Labor Day they did not show "Family Ties" which was understandable considering it was a big Holiday weekend.

I looked again tonight and they are not showing it until 2:30 am next Monday Night/Tuesday Morning. To make things even more confusing, they are airing an episode from the beginning of the series. They don't list any episodes after that. Tonight, September 6/7, they are showing back to back episodes of "227".

I know the box set comes out soon. But, for those who cannot afford the box set and/or are unable to see the series on computer stream, what are they supposed to do?

Does anybody know if UP is giving up on "Family Ties"? As said on several threads on this board, the series does not do well in syndication. However, there those who still enjoy the show and have fond memories of it.

Does anybody know what is going on?

Jenny,

Does your information come from your cable network guide or the UP Network website? Mine comes from their website. Right now I am somewhat confused that they might be giving up on "Family Ties" even at the extremely late hour they show it. No, it's not exactly in the same league as some of old Norman Lear shows, but it's still one of those shows which should be rememebered for a longgg time. Right now I am someone who has been out of full time work for 7 years so I cannot afford the boxset that's about to come out and normally don't buy Movies or TV Shows on DVD. However, if I land a job, this might be one that I would be interested in.

The information I saw was from my cable menu provider.

I agree that Family Ties is one of those shows that should be remembered for a long time. It's such a great show and it's sad that it doesn't do well in syndicatino.

Yes, overall my belief it that it's crazy that:

1. It usually plays during the graveyard shift. (2:00 AM for a show that is
basically PG - 13 at best?)

2. Yes, it's nothing like the comedies of the 70s or even some of the 80s,
but, it has it's memorable characters. Only difference is they don't
repeat the same lines every week. (Unless you include Nick's "Hey")

I am still trying to understand why this show never made it on the A list of sydicated comedies except for some of what I have stated. When I read articles on sydicated comedy land, I still have a hard time believing that there are people who watch a show like "Leave it to Beaver", "The Beverly HIllbillies" or "The Munsters" (one of the dumbest shows ever) in larger numbers than "Family Ties".

I love Family Ties and wish I could watch it more. Even when it's on Up, they show it so late that I can't stay up for it. I fall asleep. They used to show it on the Hub sometimes, but I haven't seen it on there lately either. I think it's a great show and should be on more. They shove Roseanne and The Nanny down our throats so much, I'm really getting sick of those! We need to start a petition to add more Family Ties!!!

Petitioning the networks to show "Family Ties" won't work. What drives the networks are the ratings and perhaps "Roseanne" and "The Nanny" do better in that department. What I do agree with you is the ridiculous time they show it on UP. Right now I am out of full time work so I can stay up late some nights and watch it. I also get it streamed for free though some sites. However, again, don't have a computer, nor afford the boxset, it would be nice if a cable network would air it at a normal hour. 2 AM for a show like that is unreal.
