Default John Ritter on Rhoda

Last night Me-TV reran a S2 episode of Rhoda, "Attack on Mr. Right", where John Ritter played a loan officer at the bank where Brenda worked. Brenda was desperate to date him, and when he broke their first date, and was honest in stating that he broke it because he had a better date to replace her, Rhoda encouraged Brenda not to be too eager to date him again. At one point, where Brenda & Rhoda plotted to have Joe pose as a lunch date to make the loan officer jealous, Brenda said "I feel like Lucy & Ethel!".
In any case, it was neat to see John Ritter in a role where he was much more self-assured, even arrogant, than Jack Tripper ever was.

John was also in the first season's "Chest Pains."

As Ohio8 pointed out, that was the second time John Ritter appeared on Rhoda, the first time was in an episode called "Chest Pains," playing a different character. And also appearing in the "Chest Pains" episode was Norman Fell!

I saw Norman Fell on a different Rhoda episode on Me-TV, probably playing the same doctor, but this time he was in love with Ida, which was a threat to her marriage to Martin. Ida discussed this "affair" with both Rhoda & Brenda. I remember seeing this episode back in the 70s, as I remember seeing the visual gag of the doctor measuring her height on his scale, but the measuring stick for height did not go down as low as her height.
There was a different show rerun last week where Jack Gilford played an old friend of Martin's, but their mutual love for Ida broke up their friendship in the past. That Ida was quite desirable in her day!

Yes, that was Norman Fell's second, and final appearance on Rhoda. That episode, called "Ida's Doctor," aired in the second season. And yes, he was playing the same doctor he played in the "Chest Pains" episode.

I saw that episode the other night, too. I love Jack Gilford.

There used to be a clip on YouTube where Ritter and Markie Post were on Hearts Afire as guests on the JennyJones show and Ritter was playing a sleazy redneck. It's always nice to see roles where Ritter wasn't playing a squeaky clean nice guy.

I know this is an old thread, but another Three's Company/Rhoda connection was Ray Buktenica. On Rhoda he played Benny (Brenda's boyfriend). In real life Buktenica was Joyce DeWitt's longterm boyfriend, and I think they lived together during the first few years of TC.

Now THAT is news to me. I'm glad there's a Rhoda/Three's Company connection as those are my two most favorite sitcoms from the 70s.

Here is a People article from 1980 where Joyce dishes the dirt on their break-up. Surprising, considering how private she usually was. Joyce has a way of not holding back.
