Dexter: Ranking Every Season From Worst To Best

With Dexter season 8 having been a monumental disappointment so far perhaps now is a good time to take a look at the show’s other seasons and remember exactly why we love the programme so much in the first place.

Dexter has been one of the best shows on television for the last seven years, providing us with some of televisions most shocking and memorable moments.

Season eight still has three episodes in which it can redeem itself. A few major plot twists and some huge surprises could make fans forget all about the rubbish we’ve had to endure so far, however I say this more in hope than expectation.

Here’s my ranking of each of Dexter’s last seven seasons;

Dexter has been on my mind a lot lately, and I’ve been trying to figure out why that is. I guess the show holds a special place in my heart – after all, with the exception of Doctor Who (which, due to perpetual reinvention, is pretty much a different show than when I started) it’s the series I have followed the longest. Every year, like psychopathic clockwork, came more Dexter. Yet bit by bit, this ceased to be a good thing. Fans of the show know all about the sharp decline in quality that plagued Dex, but I feel like there’s a little more to discuss here, primary in the strange fluctuating of the series that has been part of it since day one.

The series appealed to me from the moment I first glimpsed it at a friend’s house. A show entirely based around a serial killer hunting only bad people while working for the police? Perfect. The black humor and compelling plots helped a lot as well, in the early days at least. But somewhere along the line, things went very, very bad. So, now that she series has come to an end, it’s time to take a trip back through all eight seasons, celebrate the things that worked and lament the point where one of the best shows on television went wrong.

season 4 was by far the best. John Lithgow is a superb actor and really made you want to binge watch every episode of season 4.
