And Now There's A College Course about "The Walking Dead"
by Darren Franich Sep 4, 2013 https://www.canvas.net/courses/the-walking-dead America’s favorite zombie network AMC is partnering with UC Irvine for a new online college course called "Society, Science, Survival: Lessons from AMC’s The Walking Dead", which will explore all the deeper thematic implications of AMC’s hit series about creatures with no personality, and also about zombies. In a press release, the vice president of promotions and activation at AMC says, “Fans of the show know that The Walking Dead is about more than zombies; it’s about survival, leadership and adapting to situations that are perilous and uncertain.” You can actually enroll in the course right now — classes begin on October 14, the day after the show’s season 4 premiere. Topics include Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, The Role of Public Health in Society, and Social Identity, all of which will presumably circle back around to the age-old debate about whether a crossbow is cooler than a katana. Although the press release doesn’t specifically say this, this is presumably the beginning of a whole series of AMC-based college courses, so get excited for "Beard Train: Hell on Wheels and the American Industrial Revolution." http://popwatch.ew.com/2013/09/04/walking-dead-college/ |
