A bright light in the world and my dear friend, Suzanne Krull, died recently. As I write that sentence I can’t believe it’s true. She had to undergo emergency heart surgery and she didn’t make it through the operation. She leaves behind her husband (with whom she had an electrifying love affair) and their fantastic five-year-old daughter.

She was an actor, writer, teacher and comic. But she can’t be defined by what she did, but by who she was. Suzanne was ABUNDANT. And if the Greek philosopher Epicurus was right by saying, “Not what we have, but what we enjoy constitutes our abundance,” then Suzanne was one of the richest women west of the Mississippi.

She didn’t just enjoy life, she cherished it—the smallest events were a celebration, and nothing was too small to take pleasure in. She loved abundantly. She laughed abundantly. She was abundantly sexy. And for all the good she had in her life she was abundantly grateful.

Her circle of friends was far reaching and devoted. If Suzanne was coming to a party or included in an event people made sure to show up.

She had a lot of life yet to live. She had scripts to write, movies to act in and stand up routines to perform. She had her daughter’s first day of school to experience. She had love to make with her husband. She had light to shine.

There is a poem by Mary Oliver that I love, and that now reminds me of Suzanne:

WHEN

When it’s over, it’s over, and we don’t know
any of us, what happens then.
So I try not to miss anything.
I think, in my whole life, I have never missed the full moon
or the slipper of its coming back.
Or, a kiss.
Well, yes, especially a kiss.

She never missed a kiss or a full moon. The sadness that I feel is not only that she is not here to live her life abundantly, but also that we have to live our lives without the abundance of Suzanne.

We were lucky enough to have her as a contributor to WTF.
