Ya, that threw me off too! Also, how many bedrooms are in that apt? There must be 4 if French is sleeping there and Jody has his own room...

I think Jodies room use to be the den. I know Buffy and Sissy share a room.

With a modern door latch, the standard length of the "backset" is less than 3 inches long. But there's no reason a much longer one couldn't be installed. And that's what they had on the Family Affair apartment doors. It's a simple turning device.
