That episode had the perfect ending for the complete series. The original premise of the series was Nell helping the Chief raise the three girls after their mother died. That episode had all three girls leaving home and being all grown up. It should have ended there. The show went to hell after the Chief died, but it was at least still watchable as long as the girls were there. Once the girls were gone, and it was only Nell, Joey, Addie, and Grandpa, it was beyond awful. This episode should have been it because it ended with Nell talking to the Chief in heaven and telling him that the girls were grown and gone. Nell's job was done.

I'm still on season three, so I haven't seen any of the episodes when the three girls are all fired after the chief dies. It does sound like the series should have ended with Sam going off to college. Episodes that just revolve around Nell, Joey, Addy and Grandpa sound pointless.

Yes, this was the perfect ending, but Nell had Joey and Grandpa at home still. I think maybe Addy moving in would have been a good way to also close it up, not have her go to New York.

Is what you are saying that Addie would have moved in to help Nell take care of Joey and Grandpa? Or maybe Addie could have been the breadwinner of the household and Nell could have been a full-time homemaker. Those sound like workable ideas to end the series. In any event, I agree with anyone who says that the movie to New York was one of the biggest mistakes in television history! |
