Default The Love Boat coming to MeTV

Me TV has announced that The Love Boat is on its fall lineup. In checking out the lineup, it appears it will be on Sundays at 2 pm (EST) starting on September 8th. However, it appears that there will only be one episode per week.

Cool

I hope it gets great ratings and encorages them to release more seasons on DVD!

Agreed! I keep hoping that the DVD's resume, preferably in whole-season sets rather than half-season sets.

The time slot, 2pm on Sunday afternoon, isn't optimal for good ratings, so we will simply have to keep our fingers crossed - especially since they are advertising for it. If nothing else, perhaps they will go to 5 episodes a week - or at least 2! - to get us past the first two seasons quicker, which many of us already own on DVD.

Did anyone watch? Interested in seeing if they are airing uncut episodes, it would be nice to see uncut when they possibly get around to showing Season 3 (in about a year based on the current schedule...)

I saw it yesterday and it was pretty good. I really don't know what prints are being used. I was born in 1990 so I never saw it when it originally aired and I only recall watching it maybe once or twice on TV Land about 10 years ago or so. This seems like a better show for nighttime and it definitely should be on more. The way they're showing it with only episode a week, they'll never make it through the entire series at this pace.

I grew up in the 80's but never got around to watching The Love Boat which lasted maybe 3 years too long but looking at this Sunday's episode that featured Jimmie Walker, Suzanne Somers and Bonnie Franklin wow I can see what the term mediocre trash TV means when watching this.

And the tacked on laugh track is worse here than on a show like Gilligan's Island that it's an insult to the viewers intelligence.

I am watching, but due to being behind on my DVR I'm just now watching 1st episode. As another poster said I as well hope it gets good ratings so that decision makers realize it's worthy of the rest of the season being released.

I wasn't an ardent viewer when the series first ran, but right now I'd much rather catch a rerun of it than 90% of today's primetime, reality-infested junk. The fact that it did well in a tough, competitive primetime environment, with the big 3 networks slugging it out, seems to indicate that the series had some redeeming value. The three actors you've pointed out were among the best-known celebrities of their time.

The main thing for me now is that it captured in time some of the main stars of sitcoms' past, and I find that compelling and worthwhile -- especially now that so many of them have passed on.

To be honest with you, I really don't find laugh tracks to be disruptive or objectionable when watching any sitcom. In fact, when I watch Scrubs, its absence is unnerving and weird. I guess I'm conditioned to them, having watched decades' worth of sitcoms from the '50s on up.

It appears, Me-TV is finishing up Season 5 on Friday and then starting back over at Season 1. No Seasons 6-9??

That was very disappointing. Not to mention they skipped at least 30 episodes from seasons 1-5.

MeTV aired Love Boat weekday mornings for awhile, but I always missed it that time of day. If they aired seasons 1-5, I'd hope seasons 3-5 could be released on DVD soon. There needs to be at least some 80's Love Boat on DVD. MeTV plays it too safe with their programming which consists mostly of westerns and Dragnet.

Bump!

I thought I would mention that an ep airing today on MeTV had some video censoring. Lynda Goodfriend was wearing a snug-fitting white top, not low-cut though, and her breasts were blurred. Apparently she wasn't wearing a bra, and someone decided they had to censor her boobies, even though they were covered...!

Lynda is a good-looking woman, it's a shame that this was done, and totally unnecessary. The thing that's ironic is right around that scene, another actress was wearing about the skimpiest bikini possible, uncensored.

The episode was from 1981 (Season 4, Ep. 12): The Frugal Pair/Doc's Dismissal/The Girl Next Door
