About Leela in Tonight's Episode and Other Things Too - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Since there's going to be an episode tonight about Leela getting a condition that makes her grow tentacles and she gets kidnapped because of it, here's what I believe will happen. A scenario like this, I'll use this Wuzzles video as an example:

One of the coolest things about Futurama is that it defies gender and personality stereotypes. Such as the main character is a tough guy alpha male, or the second leading male is a cowardly sidekick. And a tag-along friend who's the comic relief and the female is the damsel in distress.

Futurama has none of that. But it seems like every once in a while, the writers have to give a tough female like Leela a damsel in distress moment. What is with that? That's happened to her in the comics every now and then, and even on the show. And it seems like everytime when Leela gets singled out in a bad way, Fry seems to benefit from it somehow. Like having a fun adventure with Bender and the others to save Leela while she's all locked away somewhere far away from the fun and excitement.

It's like some of the male writers have had some issues with women. Let's face it, we don't know what kind of lives TV writers lead. So maybe one of the writers had a girlfriend who suddenly dumped him for someone else, or maybe one was going to get married, and his finace left him at the alter. Probably one of them has a posessive wife who's controlling, or in a bitter divorce that the wife has taken everything from him. His house, car, and the kids.

So maybe one of the writers is so pissed off at women, that maybe he wants to get back at them somehow, so an episode is written where Leela gets abducted and needs to be rescued. Or maybe some of the writers are pissed off that they didn't create Futurama so they can make it be genderly stereotyped or the way they wish it could be. People think it's all in the name of comedy that things like that happen to Leela. They're wrong.
