Default How do you feel about IMDB?

Just curious how a lot of you S.O. regulars feel about IMDB?

I used to loved it back around 2003-2005, but now it has become a joke, it is sooo hard to have a serious discussion, just about every topic you start now ends in a fight. I swear you could post on a Good Times forum "Who was your fave character?" And you'd get a response like, "What does it matter, IDIOT!?"

And if you make a typo or grammatical mistake, OMG stand back!! It will be 30 posts about your typo totally ignoring your topic. Once I was called "the stupidest person on EARTH" b/c I accidently spelled "friend" as "frEInd", I mean really!!

Thats one reason I like this place, and come here if I wanna really discuss a show.

Just wondering what are your expereinces with IMDB?

I like IMDB--it is the first place I go to when I turn on the computer. It just takes a few minutes but I kind of miss the daily poll.

IMDb = Intentional Mistakes Database.

It's when you visit other entertainment forums, you appreciate sitcomsonline all the more. There are a lot of nasty, vile and unprovoked comments on what USED to be great sites like IMDB, but the bottom-dwellers have taken these sites over. Many profound congratulations to the moderators of this forum for rejecting and the disposal of replies that have nothing to do with the orignal post subject and would just be causing conflict and unnecessary arguments.

There are so many re-occuring annoyances that go on there. Like the same ol worn out responses.

For instance on pratically EVERY topic that you post about a TV show you will always get the classic response, "It's just a SHOW, who cares?" or "You DO realize this is a TV show don't you?"

Or someone will give some reasonable insight to your question, then out of the blue end it with an insult!!!! Like they will respond, "Yes I have noticed this, and have wondered about it myself, dumbass!" I like WTH!!? Do ppl just enjoy being aggressive online just for the sake of being aggressive?

The thing with IMDB is that there are no interactive admins or moderators to say, "Cut that harrassment out, or you're suspended/banned." They just throw "Ignore," and "report," buttons at the posters and let them fend for themselves. If we tried that harrassment mess here, Janice and the other mods/admind would politely tell us to stop and warn about suspension and bannings. I love that there are actual authority figures on SO and not "fend for yoursel mentality on IMDB.

I love the IMDB horror board, group of very friendly and extremely knowledgeable as far as horror film goes. Plus, trolls don't last long on that board.

There is SOME "guy" on IMDB who pops up every so often, follows me around and replies to all my posts with NON SENSE!! And it makes me SOOOO infuriated to think some has posted something meaningful to the discussion and it will just be something like, "I like playing Chinese checkers in Norway" or "There are peanuts onthe roof of the hotel", he SOME HOW got a lot of info. on me, he has followed me HERE, of course he doesn't act that way here, here he just politly disagrees with everything I say. It got to the point, he somehow got into an address book of mine and started signing on as names of my family members, he knew where I went to school and all that. And I think he's done things to my computer, He has really stressed me out over the past year, I WISH WISH WISH something could be done about ppl like that.

Why do you keep going back Frump?

I frequently use IMDB to look up filmographies and names - that's about it. I don't participate in the forums anymore because there are a lot of angry and crazy people over there. My biggest pet peeves are the comments about celebrities' appearances ("she's so fat!" or "he's so old") and how people misinterpret older movies (look up any 80s teen movie).

I go there often to look someone/something up. There are many errors but on the whole I think that it is a pretty good site. I never post on their message boards. I have read some of the many rude remarks and I don't get involved. In fact I haven't even looked at their message boards for a long time. I like the site for looking up info on cast lists of movies,tv , etc.

I guess it's just a dirty little habit lol

I DO like reading about movies there and occasionally giving input.

I THINK though I was here before I was there, but I'm not sure, I signed up here in Feb of 2003, and I THOUGHT I signed up there in like the Spring or Summer of 2003, but it says I registered in Nov 2001, I sure don't remember that lol

I too have had some nasty experiences on IMDB, but I still like the site. Even though I now avoid some of their message boards, because they've been hijacked by creeps, most people there are nice enough.

I too have been, "hacked" I dunno if hacked is really what happened but some person got all kinds of info on me. I don't see how ppl do that just from a forum.
