86th Annual Academy Award Winners!
Ellen DeGeneres to Host the Oscars
Aug 2, 2013 by Sadie Gennis Ellen DeGeneres will host the Oscars for a second time next year, the Academy announced Friday. "We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres host the Oscars," producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a statement. "As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars. There are few stars today who have Ellen's gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are." "I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say - the third time's the charm," said DeGeneres. The 86th Academy Awards will be broadcast live Sunday, March 2 on ABC. http://static.tvgcdn.net/MediaBin/Co...s1_210x305.jpg |

She's a good fit, she should host with Billy Crystal.

So surprised that "Saving Mr. Banks", Emma Thompson, and Tom Hanks were ignored; it was a wonderful collaboration.

Oscar Nominee for Best Original Song Is Disqualified
Jan 30, 2014 by Liz Raftery The Academy has rescinded the Best Original Song Oscar nomination for 'Alone Yet Not Alone', from the movie of the same name. The disqualification comes after Bruce Broughton, who wrote the music, was found to have violated the Academy's rule to campaign in a "fair and ethical manner." Broughton, who is a Music Branch executive committee member, had emailed other members of the branch during the nominations voting period to let them know that his song was nominated, according to the Academy. "No matter how well-intentioned the communication, using one's position as a former governor and current executive committee member to personally promote one's own Oscar submission creates the appearance of an unfair advantage," said Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs. The Academy will not name another nominee to replace 'Alone Yet Not Alone'. http://www.tvguide.com/News/Oscar-No...d-1076976.aspx |

The Oscars To Stream Online for the First Time
by Ariana Bacle Feb 27, 2014 TV isn’t the only place you’ll be able to watch the Oscars come Sunday: In a first-time move, ABC will stream the entire Oscars pre-show and awards show on their app, Watch ABC. Those with compatible TV subscriptions, like Comcast and AT&T U-Verse, will have access to the streaming services both online and on their phones or tablets. In addition to being able to watch the event live the whole night — from the pre-show to Jimmy Kimmel’s post-Oscars live show — viewers will also be able to re-watch everything Oscars on the Watch ABC app until March 5. http://insidemovies.ew.com/2014/02/2...4-live-stream/ |

TV Ratings: Oscars Rise to 43 Million Viewers, Most-Watched in 10 Years
3/3/14 by Michael O'Connell ABC's annual airing of the Oscar telecast dominated Sunday night. Final ratings for the Ellen DeGeneres-hosted show have the Academy Awards more than 2.5 million viewers ahead of last year and even in the key demographic. All told, ABC's coverage of the Academy Awards averaged 43 million viewers and 12.9 rating among adults 18-49. That's a 6 percent boost in viewers and a virtual tie with last year's adults-under-50 score. DeGeneres brought lifts among younger viewers and men -- with ratings among adults 18-34 and men both at their highest since 2007. Last year's final returns for the Oscars gave the three-hour-and-ten-minute telecast 40.4 million viewers and a 13 rating among adults 18-49. It's the biggest event on the ABC calendar, outranking all other televised awards shows. The network, which lacks any marquee sporting events, reached a deal with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2011 to keep the Oscars on ABC through at least 2020. The Oscars have been reasonably steady in recent years after the ratings nosedive in 2008 -- those averaged 32 million viewers and a 10.7 in the demo -- fluctuating between 1 or 2 million north or south of the 40-million-viewer mark. The last time DeGeneres hosted the Oscars, in 2007, the show averaged 40.2 million viewers and a 14.1 rating with adults 18-49. The telecast hasn't topped that demo score since. Most broadcast networks opted not to bother airing any original programming against the kudos -- though CBS did air a new episode of "The Amazing Race" (1.5 adults), even with last week's premiere. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/liv...rise-43-685337 |

^That may be good news for ABC.
"12 Years" only won 3 Oscars including Best Pic?! I wonder if there were other films that won only a few Oscars including Best Pic, but the film that got more awards didn't get Best Pic? All I can think of is "Grand Hotel" which only won an Oscar for Best Pic. |
