What kind of voice/accents do you hear in where you live?
((Did that make sense? ^)) |

Well, I just moved from Chicago to Western Colorado (Big change!), a lot of people say I have a Chicagoan accent. I guess it's true because I think everyone here has a Cowboy accent, so I guess it evens out!

Well I wasn't born in England but I had grown up with an English twinge in my voice, thankfully I've lost it because people made fun of me for it, so now I just talk like a regular Yankee.
Sometimes after I get back from New York, I'll start tawlkin' like a New Yorka.., sorta like I'm doin' right now... And when I get back from Bwoston, I'll always lose my "r"... as in "Can I have some watah?" But, I'm basically a regular Yankee |

Believe it or not, yes we midwesterners do have an accent. We get all nasaly and maaaake ouuur Aaaaas go oaan and oaan.
Also, we're right next to the Canadian border, and some of my friends have the thickest Canadian accent - something like a cross between California and English. "I'm going oot to the drugstoor, where I'm gonna 'ave a beer'. Dat's wut I'm takin' aboot." Yes, they DO say "aboot". I can tease them if I want to, my best friend's Canadian - we laugh at each others' accents all the time.

Yes, there is definitely a Chicago accent! It sounds a lot like a Wisconsin accent! It is subtle but there! And yes people in Colorado have a twang. I have relatives in both locations and we rib them about their accents!

My accent is NOTHING! HA! When I go down the street in Queens I hear them talkin, and I copy it. Go into Brooklyn, then end up doing the same...every borrough is different.
Try Staten Island sometime! WHOOO DOGGY! lol Actually, when I was younger, I had an Australian/Canadian accent and had to go to a speach therapist to get rid of it. And yesh I said "aboat". It's more "aboat" than "aboot" where my relatives come from. Instead of saying "I" it was "oy"...ugh, it was odd. Now if I slip I laugh...but I'm the only one who notices cuz I can do so many accents now that I'm older! **moo...mooing is not an accent!** |
