Default Worst Storylines article

Here's a pretty interesting article I received from a fellow Carby on my mailing list... and BTW, the most important parts of the article I put in bold... haha!!!!!

TV Gal Nails the Worst Storylines
Mon, Feb 18, 2002 02:19 PM PDT
We've all had bad ideas.

When I was in the fourth grade, I decided to cut my own bangs. Not really understanding where bangs end and the rest of your hair begins, I ended up with sideburns. Like I said, bad idea.

But at least my bad idea only affected me. When television writers have bad ideas it can ruin a whole season. "ER" has been chock-full of some seriously bad story lines this season. The show's writers are suffering from a severe case of amnesia. This season Abby has been reduced to a recovering alcoholic who drinks seemingly without consequence (how very "90210." ) Each episode offers more puzzling questions. Why would Abby open the door when she knew the abusive husband was on the other side? Why wouldn't she call the police immediately? What's up with Luka's vigilante version of a hero? Didn't he find some inner peace with that bishop? Didn't he already kill the man who mugged him?

Or how about Mark's daughter Rachel? Not only did she go through a huge growth spurt this season, but she was replaced by, let's be honest, a bad actress (petulant appears to be her entire emotional range) who drags down every scene she's in.

But no story line has been worse than Susan and Carter: A Love Story. A close relation to "Mark and Elizabeth: A Love Story" but, as impossible as this may sound, even more boring. This relationship is so dull even the writers seem to have given up on it.

John Aylward, Dr. Donald Anspaugh on "ER," was the boss who laid off an employee because she had AIDS on "Ally McBeal."

Did you think Eriq LaSalle had left "ER"? Apparently, his swan song last year was merely a figment of our imagination. LaSalle, still under a pesky contract that pays him $9 million a season, will be back for three episodes. The constantly cranky Corday (who has been looking so awful lately I'm beginning to fear that someone in the make up department is sabotaging her) prevents Mark from seeing his infant daughter on Feb. 28.

Abraham Benrubi is back as Jerry on "ER." He'll seriously clash with Frank.

Cool

I know some of you guys are probably going to bash me but I like Carter and Susan together. I think they have some real chemistry. I don't care for Abby at all. Just my opinion I don't think Mark and Elizabeth make a good couple. I liked her better with Benton. Doug and Carol will always be my favorite ER couple

OHHHHH GAWD THAT'S IT!!!!!!! FULL ON CARBY ATTACK!!!!!!!!!!

J/J. It's okie dokie artichokie! You're entitled to your own opinion. Personally, I think Carter and Susan make a horrible couple. Now Carter and Abby... THAT'S an eggzellent couple!!!! Haha, I'm a dedicated, hard core Carby. I couldn't stand Carol. Doug was awesome, but I just hated Carol. I thought she was a real bitch... JMO, though. Now Doug + Carol was bad cuz they matched up a gr8 character (Doug) w/a horrible character (Carol). I'm so happy Julianna Margulies left the show, but I wish George Clooney wouldn't have decided to exit.

I'm seriously going through a drought on Carby. I hate Susan. I hate her guts. If she would leave Carter alone and let him go to Abby, I'd be on my knees praising her.

Couldn't have said it better myself, Karli. I totally agree w/you. I don't hate Susan, though. I used to hate her, but ever since she was so kind to Abby after Abby was attacked, I started liking her. However, she'd BETTER back away from Carter and let Abby be w/him cuz they BELONG together. THEY BELONG TOGETHER!!!!! YOU HEAR ME?! HUH?! DO YA!!!!!!!

Damn the Carby drought.

I don't hate Susan..actually I like her a lot. I just don't like her with Carter However, I liked her a whole lot better back in the early days. I think that she and Abby would make great friends =)

I agree!! I love Susan.. I don't see how anyone who was around for the early days could hate Susan. Man, lay off Susan.

Of course you all are entitled to your opinions. I hate Susan with Carter too, because Susan belongs with Mark...Susan hasn't been fleshed out very well since her return, I hope they give her better storylines soon.

I hadn't even thought about that. Yeah, she was drinking wine before he came over and beat the crap out of her. Have they shown her drinking in other episodes? I'm calling the big next season Abby story-line now: they are probably going to have her slip back into being an alcoholic.

Ok, I've missed something here. He killed someone? How is he not in jail? Or was that like a long time ago? (I missed alot of episode last season and didn't watch the season before that at all)

Yes, Luka killed someone back at the beginning of season 7 in the episode "Benton Backwards". He and Abby were out on there very first date. They were walking along the river when a bald man comes up and smashes Luka on the back of the head w/a pipe. Then the man grabs Luka's wallet and goes for Abby and starts sort of rough housing her, trying to steal her purse. Luka gets up, and starts thrashing the man around. Luka wrestles the guy to the ground and bashes his skull off the concrete repeatedly. It's freaky cuz you can hear the guy's skull cracking w/each bash off the hard ground. Abby tries to get Luka to stop, but he won't and just keeps bashing and bashing a numerous amount of times w/this look of rage in his eyes. He eventually stops... after about 10 crashes of the bald mans skull to the concrete. Abby and Luka take the man into the ER and he ends up dying. It was pretty weird.

So how does he get out of going to jail? Claiming self defense? I don't see how that would wash if Abby and Luka got away pretty unscathed.
