What movies can u watch over and over? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I used to think it was just something I did when I was a kid and, to an extent, it was. When I was younger I would watch the same movies over and over again: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, The Goonies, Back to the Future. Now as an adult I tend to do this less, but there are still a handful of movies I am happy to watch over and over again. I wonder, why is that?

Recently a movie I’ve watched three or four times is Prometheus. This is despite the fact I think it is a heavily flawed movie. I’m happy to watch this over and over again.

Another one is Up. I love that movie but I love a lot of movies — why watch that one over and over again?

So, here is my question: what movies do you folks tend to watch over and over again, and why do you think that is?

Brad, If you like One flew over the cuckoo's nest you might want to check out The ninth configuration, Very similar to Cuckoo's nest. One of my favorites.

I haven't watched my favorites in awhile now, when I do they are:

The Karate Kid I and II- Always fun
Back To The Future Trilogy- Always fun to watch weather it's 1, 2 or 3.
The Outsiders- Fun to see the Brat pack when they were still fairly unknown.
Sixteen Candles- The start of the Teen angst movies.
The Breakfast Club- This movie needed a sequel or longer ending to find out if they ignored each other at school Monday morning.
Stand By Me- This movie really needed a sequel, by the end of the movie you miss these guys and feel you were with them on their adventure. Too late for a sequel now.

I have many...

I'll watch "Bruce Almighty" when I feel discouraged, "Anger Management" when I'm angry, "Gone with the Wind" when I go on a Pennsylvanian Family Reunion, "Forrest Gump" when I go to Milan (NOT Italy, it's a small town in Ohio where Thomas Edison was born), "Three Caballeros", "A Boy Named Charlie Brown", and "The Wiz" on the day after Thanksgiving if things go well.

A number of movies:

Superman movies (Christopher Reeve movies particularly, but definitely also "Superman Returns" and "Man of Steel")- and yeah, I also include "Supergirl" in with these movies.
Most any other DC and Marvel movie (except for the Ghost Rider and Blade movies- I don't get into those characters so much- don't care to see the movies. And definitely except for Catwoman because that was a horrible movie. "Batman and Robin" and "Elektra" are both WAY better.)
[particular favorites of these- Spider-Man movies (Tobey Maguire), X-Men movies (original trilogy), The Fantastic Four movies, Captain America movies (1979 TV-movies, 1990 movie and 2011 movie), The Incredible Hulk (2008), Batman movies (1989-1997 movies, as well as "Batman Begins"- I've seen "The Dark Knight" and "The Dark Knight Rises"- but I think I like the first one of that series best. And of course, "Batman: The Movie" from 1966.)
And definitely "The Avengers".

Other movies I've seen repeatedly and LOVE watching every time:

Indiana Jones movies (yes, all 4 of them- I'd love to see a 5th. if George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford come back for one like they've said they would like to do.)

Back to the Future movies (here's a series where I actually don't want to see any further movies because it's great as it is- the same conclusion the creators have reached and stated repeatedly.)

The Lord of the Rings movies and The Hobbit movies.

The Chronicles of Narnia movies.

"Shadowlands" (1994 movie about C.S. Lewis and his wife, Joy Gresham.)

Star Wars movies (yeah- all of them. The original trilogy is still my favorite, but I enjoy the prequel movies too. And the Ewoks TV-movies are fun. And definitely- "The Star Wars Holiday Special"- that's just classic!)

Star Trek movies (all of them.)

James Bond movies (all of them.)

"The Goonies", "The Rocketeer", "The Princess Bride", "Newsies", "The Mighty Ducks" trilogy, "Little Giants", "Little Big League", "Rookie of the Year", "The Sandlot" (original is great- second one is horrible- third one actually makes up for the second though- good movie), "The Big Green", "Field of Dreams", "Dead Poets Society", "Heavyweights", "Houseguest", "Good Burger", "Napoleon Dynamite", "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" [have to edit some of these movies though- well, that goes for most all of them]

The Karate Kid movies (the original trilogy with Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita- I like "The Next Karate Kid" too- but I really don't care to see the remake.)

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movies

Disney animated movies (particularly the Aladdin movies, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast, Pocahontas, Mulan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Jungle Book, Robin Hood- and most all the others. I don't care for the "Lilo & Stitch" movies though.)

Muppet movies- all of them. TV specials and TV-movies, etc. And Sesame Street movies- I love The Muppets and most all of Jim Henson's work.

Nancy Drew movies (the 1930s movies and 2007 movie are all great.)

The Three Investigators movies

Police Academy movies (have to edit some though... I also have only seen the first one on TV where it's edited, since the movie is rated "R" with good reason- and I generally try to avoid R-rated movies except for very select exceptions - like "The Passion of the Christ", for instance.)

And probably lots of others I've forgotten......
