How well can your city handle a disaster? I have seen the confusion and stupidity of my city during floods and tornadoes,it ain't pretty. We have one of the first baseball stadiums built for safety in case of a tornado, there is a place in the stadium where all the people can go in an orderly fashion for protection, the stadium security is trained on all the drills and procedures. Earlier this year there was a tornado and the security made all the people leave when it was approaching, told them their chances were better on the road. A tractor trailer over turned and shut down the highway, the power was off everywhere and all those people were stuck on that highway for 4 hours, they were going to the bathroom on the side of the road. I would hate to imagine what it would be like if we got hit by a major earthquake. I see videos on Youtube where people in California race out of a building when it starts shaking, Here people would not know what to do, they would just stare at each other. Very few of the structures here are designed to handle earthquakes, bridges, buildings would just crumble. It would really be a major disaster.

Here in Florida we have at least one Tropical System go over the state each year (Andrea passed over the state last month) Each June I'll purchase $100.00 worth of gasoline to use in my Generator should I experience a power loss (In December I use the Gas in my Motorscooter and the Lawnmower). I been through three Hurricanes (Charlie, Francis and Jean) and one Tornado. In 2009 we had a non-tropical storm that dumped 30 inches of rain over Daytona. I broke out my kayak and paddled up and down the street.

I'm in DC. The only exits are 4 bridges over the Potomac into Virginia, the Metro, or major (and regularly clogged) thru ways into Maryland. We're screwed.
