Question Joseph Kearns

The actor who portrayed George Wilson died of a bleed in the brain while the show was on break but when they return to the show they replace him with Gale Gordon who portrayed his brother (forgot his character's name)(and it is on my tip of the tongue too). I know that Gale Gordon has also passed away in recent years. You cannot help but love George Wilson but I also like Gale Gordon's character too. They said that George Wilson moved away, but that was a poor excuse for his absence. I am not sure why they did that, they could have said that he has passed away. I guess they believe that it was a children show and they didn't want to do that because of the small children who watched the sitcom. But little children are taught about death each and everyday because of pets. But I guess if they didn't read the newspaper or things that reported his death they wouldn't found out about his real death. I am not making any sense, I guess.

I don't think it was a poor excuse. The show was supposed to be a light comedy (IMHO anyways) and having George die would have put a damper on things.

I've always liked Gale Gordon; nobody can play a curmudgeon better than he. But George Kearns really added something special to the show, and Gale could not replace that.

Yes, but the show wasn't on break. They had another 8 episodes of season 3 to film.

They continued filming while he was at the hospital fighting for his life for 6 days and they gave his lines to minor supporting characters (in the first 2 of those 8 episodes).

Finally, after he died, they promptly replaced him with Gale Gordon for the final 6 episodes of season 3, and then kept Gordon for season 4 as well.
