Default Samantha running to her father and saying "I love you, Daddy"

That is one of the sweetest scenes ever! By seeing Nell's father pass away with him and Nell still at odds, Samantha realized the importance of telling her father how much she loved him. A lot of people never get the chance to tell someone they love that they love them. Samantha, as usual(LOL), had been a brat the day before and had refused to hug the Chief goodbye because he wouldn't let her go fishing by herself. Now, she wasn't going to let this chance pass her by. She ran to him as soon as he came through the door. They both nailed this scene. Samantha cries and hugs him, and the Chief cradles and comforts her. And, Nell sings a fantastic rendition of "Amazing Grace" in the background. They sure don't make shows like this anymore!

I love the scene because I imagine how great it must be to love your father that much, to want to run into his arms. My father has been verbally abusive to me my entire life. He has criticized me, called me names, made fun of me, told me I would never amount to anything, etc. Most recently, he told me to go to hell and also threw in a "f&ck you". What kind of father tells their kid to go to hell? Thus, our relationship is totally severed.

I've never wanted to be around my father, much less run to him and say "I love you". That must be a super, awesome feeling to feel. Samantha felt so much love for her father that she wanted him to hold her. I wouldn't have any idea what that feels like, to truly want your father. It must be great. My feeling is to want to stay away from my father. That bond is really missing in my life. Oh well, I am an adult now and have accepted the fact that I will never have that. That's why I love seeing scenes like this. What Samantha and the Chief had is how it is supposed to be. I think he was closer with Samantha because they had a lot of the same interests.

I agree with you. This was a very touching scene, from both Nell and Samantha's view. Like you, I didn't have the best relationship with my father, he wasn't in my life, so I couldn't relate to how Samantha was feeling about her pops. But time has heeled a lot of things and my relationship with my father has been patched up as he is now in a nursing facility. Long story short, my dad now needs his family and we are there for him. I can relate to this now

This was a very touching scene indeed! I cried right along with Nell and Sam. I know the pain of losing your father. Like some, my relationship with my father was fractured but we still had the weekly phone calls and he died before we could really work everything out. Though it wasn't perfect, we did love each other and it was known, but there was alot lost between us too. Tough relationship or not, my father's death hit me very hard and I'm still trying to come to grips with it afer almost two years. I had it my head that because we weren't close and we had issues that I would not hurt if he died, well, I was VERY WRONG! So many good memories have come back that I haven't thought about in years and I remember how much I did love him. My hope is that everyone who has a fractured relationship with father can mend it before it's too late. Trust me, you will feel that pain when they are gone, even if you are at your angriest.
