Default Anyone else dislike "Self Checkout" at Pharmacies and Supermarkets??

Why the hell should I have to do extra work when I'm spending my money? lol

This cashier in CVS was encouraging me to use it and not realizing he was making himself uselss.

I do not like playing the role of a cashier when I go in the store to spend my money

The End

LOL

I like it. I can get in and get out more quickly than when I have to make chit chat with the register monkey. The only self check out that I don't like is the one at Harris Teeter since the process is counter intuitive. Self check out also means that I can use as many plastic bags as I damn well please. Nothing is worse than having an over stuffed bag burst open in the parking lot.

You should use it b/c it's the absolute latest cool HIP thing to do, so you should totally hop board!!!

LOL

I'm totally kidding.

I agree, I hate it too, and REFUSE to use it. For one thing it puts ppl out of work.

At our Walmart they've replaced about a 4th of the cashiers counters with self-checkout, so what have they done with the 4th of the cashiers that they replaced?

I HATE these things that put ppl out of work, I WILL NOT use it, I will stand in line for an hour to get checked out by a real person before I will use one of those!

And I would just bet like most anything new they prolly are more trouble, I bet they are always messing up and and someone from management is always having to come and fix them, just like the debit card machine, honestly has that thing ever worked right on the 1st swipe? LOL

And I think it's sorta nice to make chit-chat with ppl, I think that is becoming a lost art too, human interaction.

But I'd say get ready. it will prolly just be around the corner before ALL checkout stations will be self check out, and you prolly won't get to deal with a real person in anything. It's sad.

Never thought about that it would put someone out of work but my Albertsons has it and when I'm in a rush, which I usually am, then I use it.

Well I mean what else could it do other than put ppl out of work.

I mean it's like I said at our Walmart they have replaced about a 4th of the checkout counters with them, so what has happened to that 4th of the cashiers, it will either put them out of work or drastically reduce their hours.

I know I sound 100 years old, but I'm not but I just hate this new way of thinking, everything has to be speedy, speedy, speedy, FAST!!! There is absolutly no human feeling or emotion anymore.

I hate it. When I finish shopping, I'm tired. I don't feel like bagging things. Usually the person in front of me doesn't know how to use the machine and I waste even more time waiting for him or her to complete their purchase.

I'm glad supermarkets added these self checkout machines because it's good to use them instead of having to wait in a long line that has a cashier. I get outta the store quicker now because of self checkout. It sucks that some cashiers will lose their job because of it but that's life. Sometimes things happen in life that people don't like but you have to deal with it and make a change or be stuck going nowhere. I don't like the fact that Blockbuster Video stores are gone because people are getting movies online but i deal with it and i'm not too mad about it because i go to a smaller video store. If the smaller video store i go to went outta business, i would really be mad because i wouldn't know where to rent movies from because i don't like getting movies online.

Exactly!!! I agree 100%! A lot of this new technology is more trouble that it has benefits. Like now when they storm knocks out my power, it takes 10 minutes for the TV to reboot and come back on whereas used to it would come bacon on instantly.

Isn't it supposed to be making things easier for us?

This is the typical way of thinking nowdays and I SO disagree with it. Now days it's all about fast fast fast, who cares who it puts out of a job. I put PEOPLE over machines, and if it means I have to stay in the store a few more minutes in line, so ppl can have a job, I'm willing to do that, where have I ~or anyone else~ have to be that's so important that they have to get out of the store in 2 seconds flat.

I just look at it like : I have to be in the store a few extra mins and ppl keep their jobs, but it costs ppl their jobs to get me out of the store 2 mins faster, I have more compassion than that.

I mean don't get me wrong, I know ppl have important places to go, but I don't think everyone should be in that big of a rush all the time.

And as someone said it's a bigger hassle b/c basically you have to do it all yourself, bagging and everything.

It just seems like everyone nowdays is in a almighty rush to nowhere.

And as human-interaction is eliminated and ppl only deal with machines, young ppl are going to have poorer and poorer communication skills. It seems like today kids already don't know how how to talk properly to ppl, when I worked at the theater selling food, when kids would come up to give their order, they wouldn't look at you, and just MUMBLE. I think all of this is a sign of the times.

Modern technology has some advantages don't get me wrong, but overall I agree it has made many things a lot more complicated, impersonal etc. etc.It has gone waaaay to far already.

It's the way the new electronic way is. You just got to get use to it. I won't be surprised if all stores in a future date will be all electronic check out or all online shopping.

TRUE!! And another thing that I find amazing is, we have all this "brilliant" hi-tech technology, computers that basically respond to thought waves, yet we still haven't found a cure for cancer, diabetes, alzeimers, bodies just falling apart for no other reason other than just b/c they get old, old ppl having to be in constant pain from nothing else other than age, or even been able to extend lives. But yet we can get ppl out of a supermarket 2 mins faster.

I think if some of the effort that's put in these silly things were put into things like THAT we'd be better off.

These are things that tick me off.
