Default What if the Spurs battled the Heat in the 2006 NBA Finals? (Shaq vs. Duncan)

Hey guys,

This year's NBA Finals saw the San Antonio Spurs battle the Miami Heat, but let's take you back to 7 years ago

The Miami Heat made the NBA Finals when they've def. the Dallas Mavericks to win their very 1st NBA Championship

It was Shaquille O'Neal, Dwyane Wade, Alonzo Mourning and Gary Payton on the Heat

The Mavericks made the Finals by def. the San Antonio Spur to get to the NBA Finals

But the Mavericks lost to the Heat in 2006, but the Mavericks def. the Heat 5 years later in a Return Match to win their 1st Championship

But, suppose if the Spurs def. the Mavericks in 2006 to get the NBA Finals against the Heat

also, Shaq and Tim Duncan have been rivals during the Western Conference during Shaq's Time with the Lakers and both of them even became MVP in the 2000 NBA All-Stars and the 2 of them even to this day still have that respect for each other and they even battled each other in the Western Conference during Shaq's Time with the Suns, but Shaq has also battled Duncan in an East vs. West Rival when Shaq joined Cleveland after leaving the Phoenix Suns and later when he joined Boston Celtics before an injury forced him to retire in 2011

What if the Spurs played against the Heat in the 2006 NBA Finals with Shaq, Wade, Alonzo and Gary Payton vs. Tim Duncan, Robert Horry, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili?

Would the Heat still win the NBA Finals or would the Spurs have won that year and would the Spurs have made a 3-peat which includes a 2005 victory over Ben & Rasheed Wallace and the Pistons and a 2007 victory sweeping Lebron James and the Cavaliers?

That's the Question!

Please share your thoughts on all of this

Well, I think that it would have been a great match up, but even though I like Shaq and Wade as well as Alonzo Mourning and even though I like the Spurs (even during the days of David Robinson), it would have been a great series, but also, a buddy of mine who is a Spurs Fan told me that Tim Duncan is more of a Finesse Player than Shaq and that Shaq DOES Rule the Paint, but on the other hand, it's a tough call

But on the other hand, we probably would not have seen the Heat play against the Mavericks that year and I was pulling for the Heat to win b/c Dallas did not have a bench that year in 2006, but they had a good bench in 2011 and I pulled for them that year

But back to the task @ hand, a 3-peat would have been nice had the Spurs played against the Heat and won in 2006, but Shaq is no fool and he's NOT Shaqtin' a Fool

But once again, it's a tough call, but this would have been a great match up

It would be interesting, but also, it would be interesting to see Pat Riley and Greg Popovich as Coaches that year since I don't think those 2 have ever met in the Finals as Coaches for their respective teams, but Riley met Pop in the Finals in 2013 with Riley as President of the Heat and Pop as the Coach of the Spurs

But once again, it's a tough call
