Alan Whicker,that quintessentially English gentleman born in a bygone age has died aged 87. It is difficult to describe exactly what he did:his slow laconic delivery to camera typical of the English upper classes whose superiority complex baffles the English speaking world but without whom the British Empire would not have lasted 346 years.
