The "Beaver and Andy" episode was aired on MeTV today. It deals with alcoholism, basically a subject much more serious than most of those featured in the series. This particular episode was first telecast on February 13, 1960 - the third year of the series. It is handled with seriousness and dignity and properly shows how a young person might look upon someone with this illness. Interestingly, it is probably not an episode that is remembered by many longtime viewers of LITB and yet it provides a real look at why this series is still being shown on TV almost 50 years after it left the network.

Its a great episode. Back then on TV shows, every so often they would touch on real social issues like this one. Even on the sitcoms.

Leave It To Beaver touched on a few real life issues, besides alcoholism- smoking, divorce...

I liked the episode, but the guy who played Andy gave me the creeps. I don't know why, but it's just one of those things I guess and I got the same feeling when he played Mr. Willet too.
