After a man was recently killed for his winning Lottery money, you would think that Lottery officials would stop forcing winners to come public with their winnings, but no.
They still force them to come public. I think there should be a choice where the winner can say, "Look, just let me collect my winnings as anonymous. I really don't want the public to know I have just won thousands/millions of dollars."

Making the lottery winners public is up to each state. Some have a press conference, others won't announce them in public but they can be obtained in public record, others announce the winners 1-year after they won...
The lottery is meant for the public and since they are funded w/ public funds people have the right to know that there is nothing shady going on and that people are winning. If you look at the ticket you purchase and actually read the rules and regulations, you will see that it says that they can make your name public if you claim a prize. Anything over $600 has to be claimed here in NY. So... don't play the lottery if you don't want to be named. |

The public knowing you've suddenly come into millions cannot be a good thing. Don't know why there can't be an Anonymous Law where you can collect your winnings in private. Do more people have to be killed for lottery money before lawmakers say, "Maybe we should stop making lottery winners come public?"
